Re: Berklee Expansion Plans
Everyone is saying "I don't know styles, architectural history, etc", when has that even come up in a conversation? With a few exceptions, most of the squabbling is about height, quality of materials, and activation at the streetwall. Hardly high minded architectural criticism. If you like a building (or dislike it) just attempt to explain your feelings in the best terms you can. Even if others disagree, just stick to your guns. As Toby said, its your opinion, own it! This board is hardly filled with in depth high minded architectural criticism, and if it was, I probably wouldn't be here. I get enough of that in my real life from Courbu fetishists, this is my nice escape to the real world, oddly enough on the internet. I think the only real snobbery on here is getting flack referring to steel as iron or concrete as cement, which is fully justified IMO (like saying ATM machine, or PIN number, ugh!).
I sit corrected. I didn't realize some of us are not anon. Still don't know who you are, kz, but admire your decision.
My point, perhaps poorly made, don't let opposing opinion dim your desire to weigh in. And yes, cca, the net's a mess, which is the good news and the bad news. Kind of like democracy.
Yeah, you can find out my identity with a single click below. Then there are the users with names like John Keith, or other regular posters who while technically anonymous talk enough about their personal lives it would take only a few searches to figure out who they really are. Not many on here hide their identity all too well, except F-Line, who I feel must have a secret lair of maps somewhere at the end of the Tremont tunnel.
Oh, and I love this building... back to the subject at hand...
I don't know if I love it, but its on the positive side of the scale. The windows I do love though. I'm hoping the glass on the corner is going to help to tie the whole building together, but even if its not perfect, it's unique, and distinctly Berklee. That last point being the most important. Despite being a prestigious institution, Berklee never really had a distinct image. Its buildings are all repurposed and pretty easily overlooked. Even if the building turns out to be the definition of suck, its still an icon.
