Springfield has so much potential. It's just a shame that there are few jobs and rampant government corruption. The downtown is pretty nice, but that's a pretty small area.
The elevated highway and rail line totally cuts off the waterfront from the city. It's really a shame, highways cut off the waterfront in Springfield on the east and West Springfield on the west of the Connecticut River. Ironically, the thing that was supposed to bring Springfield into the future (I-91) did more damage than good. On top of that, I-291 chopped off the North End from downtown.
There is a ton of land that is just ripe for development with some private investment and some vision from government. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.
