Disagree. The state could easily pass a law extending last call for alcohol to say, 3am at the states 2 resort casinos.

Historically there were special liquor licenses that had a later last call, and there were a couple in Boston. They carried extra fees and extra scrutiny in exchange for the later last call. There is precedent in the state.

Wasn't there an old coffee shop in the North End that would stay open all night which had a special permit to serve food throughout the night. Maybe Lucia's?

Food isn't alcohol.
South Street Diner is still 24 hour too isn't it?

They could legalize prostitution at his casino too if they wanted as well. The point isn't what the legislature is legally allowed to do. Its that once you start carving out special rules for the guy, not only are you setting a bad precedent for when he comes back for a tax rate reduction for example (and he will, mark my words), but he's also going to put other places out of business who have to shut down in accordance with the rules everybody else has to live by, so no net new jobs. Perhaps even some job losses.

but compared to the rest of the restaurants around the North End that need to stop serving food at 10 and close at 1?

It might have been Caffé Vittoria which was the only North End restaurant allowed open back in the day.

I don't know exactly the scenario but I remember hearing of a scenario where this caffee had a special permit to stay open all night and after the club we would get some food at the caffee back in the 90's.

You might be thinking of Caffe Pompei?

Yes.......What was the deal with that place?
They were serving a full menu at 3-4-A.M. When the rest of the North End was shutdown.

Assuming no changes are made to the current liquor laws, I am going to guess Wynn will need to find a way around it. People like the fact that they can get some free beers/wine/cocktails while losing their shirts at the blackjack table.

I'm not sure how. I just always remembered that bald bouncer. They legit had a bouncer and you waited in line outside to get a table. I remember the food/pizza being really good, but I was always inebriated so who knows.

From yesterday's Chelsea Record Newspaper:

"DESIGNER FOR
NEW BRIDGE TO BE
SELECTED

EVERETT - City, state and Wynn Boston Harbor officials are preparing to decide on a firm to study and design a new pedestrian and bicycle
bridge that would cross the Mystic River near the casino property.

The design and study is a requirement of state environmental regulators that reviewed the Wynn Boston Harbor proposal. Wynn has to pay for the study, which is for the Department of Conservation (DCR) and Recreation and the
City of Everett.

Jay Monty, a transportation planner for the City, said this week that three firms had submitted proposals for the project, which would unite the Assembly Row T Station with the Wynn Casino. He said they had found a
firm that they were all comfortable with and would be announcing their pick soon.

The DCR did not return a request for information, and Wynn Boston Harbor said it was looking to the DCR for the decision. The pedestrian and bike
bridge would connect to the Northern Strand Community Path, which runs from Santilli Circle deep into Lynn in a mostly separated path that accommodates bicyclists and pedestrians.

In Everett, the popularity of the path has grown substantially and also includes community gardens around its sidelines. It is one of the main
priorities for Mayor Carlo DeMaria."

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

There seems to be an important party missing from that press release.

Edit: Unless Somerville doesn't get a say because it's DCR land?

Somerville will get a say, but it is DCR controlled land and property so they would be the lead agency to pull together the plan. And the state reps and senators from communities on both sides of the water will have a lot of say since the state would have to mostly fund it, presumably with some of the revenue generated from the casino.

Even if it is relatively small money ( less than $10 or 15 million) this is going to be at least 3 years away more likely 5 to 7 years even if the plan looks good and has public support. Hopefully it is a good plan.

Interesting that we are seeing a lot of steel prior to the elevator shafts. Many of the most recent steel buildings seem to have had the poured shafts go up first, followed by steel.

I dont really think this is the case... the steel youre seeing is for all intensive purposes different buildings. The steel showing is just the low rise portions of the casino and not the hotel stack

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I cannot believe how fast wynn is getting this built. It's like the land was never contaminated.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

^^a shame isn't it, Steve Wynn isn't the boss of the State's air rights projects.

imagine if we had a player who actually understands 'money' running them.

Yep. Given the looseness with which he colluded with sellers connected to organized crime in making the whole complex happen, makes one wonder how thoroughly the site was truly decontaminated. This is, of course, the site, literally, of a chemical company. Like, the worst. Maybe it was done right, but I doubt it.
