As I went over the CR bridge I noticed hundreds of dead fish floating in the Mystic below. Have not seen anything in the news about a toxic spill (?)

Globe article about this. Looks like it's from natural causes.

But city and state officials, as well as local environmentalists, said Thursday that while the alarming sight is under investigation due to the number of fish, the incident was likely due to natural causes.

Patrick Herron, executive director of the Mystic River Watershed Association, said the Department of Environmental Protection and state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife have been looking into what he called a “die-off” that left tens of thousands of menhaden — or, as they’re more commonly known, “pogies” — in the area.

Herron said the likely explanation is that the fish were driven into the shallow, warmer waters by a predator. Once in that area of the river, the fish depleted the oxygen supply and ultimately perished, he said.

Makes sense, all those fish chased into a side channel like that would quickly deplete the oxygen in shallow water. Although the fact that the river/harbor dead ends like that is completely man-made with that narrow side channel and the river itself blocked at the Amelia Earheart Dam there would be very little place for a large school of fish like that to escape.

Crafty predators. I wonder if there is something along the shore or with the Dam that can be done to prevent the fish from getting trapped there. Evens something simple like planting sea grasses in that channel so that fish don't think it is an escape route.

Put more predators in the dead end.

Put more predators in the dead end.

Or...open the dam a bit more frequently. Provide better connectivity for diadromous fish, AND attenuate the epic eutrophication and pollutant issues upstream of the dam.

The dam has been poorly managed in this regard for eons.

at any rate, the fish die-of is not related to the Casino.

The ground floor does look cheese factory-ish but the roofs did help make it look a lot better- thank god. The mix of materials with masonry helps it look higher quality too. Theyre doing a good job with the park too. Its funny how this is what Wynn towers look like, but it fits in with Bostons slanty-roof style we’ve been building lately..

I love that we figured out our own unique “Boston Slanted Roof” look with the slanty-roofs and not only does it look good and differentiate us, but it kind of just happened organically and then architects were like...wait hold on, we have something here. The harbor Garage towers were going to have this too which was going to look great there too. Those wont be going up now but they have a single tower model with a slanty roof that theyre trying to build now that also looks great. The parcels in the back bay over the pike are going slanty roof too haha.

Im all for this new trend. 115 fed wont have it on the main tower, but the shorter part of the tower on the back of the T will have it. Id love to see a new style in the 21st century that is being built on on modern towers that is unique to Boston and an architectural style that when people see it they think of Boston.

Every time I read through this thread, I think, "how am I going to convince my wife to go here on our next visit to Boston?"

Casinos? Gambling? Everett? Lots of negotiations.....

This project will not affected by the Sheetmetal Workers strike.

Savvy Steve Wynn negotiated a no strike clause.

Gotta read the whole article.

But because sheet metal workers manufacture the parts they install and manufacturing facilities are shut down because of the strike, Gill said, those job sites may run out of material within a week.

A wonderful scene next to this site about a week ago.

Yeesh.. As someone who really despises the taste and smell of fish, this photo and the thought of rotting fish instantly made my stomach churn.

Yeah, I could smell it from the Costco parking lot last weekend.

From what I understand, it was a natural event, not connected to any construction activity or pollution.

That looks like something biblical? Natural event? That's bullshit. They are most likely dying because of the dredging of the river along with digging up all the old contaminated soil in the water.

A lack of oxygen from a huge school of fish being chased into the shallows by larger predatory fish.

if anything, future dredging will save the fish cuz we rock.
