Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Oh boy, here we go again...

Can't enjoy discussion on ANY topic these days without the identity politics.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I'd say we're likely to see 'Encore Boston Harbor'.
It's not like a casino in greater Boston needs Wynn's branding to turn a profit.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

I miss when the Amazon thread was the most vitriolic thread. Despite some moments where some viewed it as so bad that some wanted to lock it, it wasn't that bad and everyone (or at least myself and I believe generally everyone) still kept a separation from being personal. This one are apparently are getting people on block lists with categorization of being a wingnut and an implied history of assaults.

And I want mention because I value honesty, I do lean being worried. No, this doesn't mean I am thinking back to some horrible evil things. I just can remember moments of attempting and being rejected. To be rejected means I have to make some kind of attempt. And being rejected is a lot of times awkward and thus uncomfortable. None of that is nowhere near what the stories described of people like Wynn allegedly done. But I still worry. As long as I keep trying to flirt, I'm going to have cases the girl doesn't not like me back and thus give feel negative feelings. And I hope feeling worried doesn't mean I deserve to being added to block lists.

Keep in mind the block list mentioning, I'm seeing multiple posters on both sides that I recognize and respect. People that in other threads the conversations have been cordial and productive. Not cases of a single poster that everyone knows with quiet discussions if action should be taken but always debated because a lack of a truly unacceptable offense.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

^The Amazon thread was mostly a conversation about urban planning, transportation, housing costs, and the occasional tax break discussion. Sure some political stuff, but it was all relevant. This thread on the other hand.

Biggest issue I have with the HQ2 discussion is that it isn't a development project yet. With this I wish we would focus on the actual build and not bicker about national politics in general. Keep it to Wynn and the affects on this development.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

If wonder if a name change came to fruition, the Wynn folks would require the "trade mark" facade to be changed, start taking down the glass panels and start a new design!

Let’s hope this thing is so out of place with that tacky 80’s facade

A casino with a tacky façade? I'm shocked, shocked that gambling is going on in there!

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

Personally, I'm a big fan of the hotel tower's facade. It doesn't look like anything else in Boston and I like the color of the glass. The lowrise portion, on the other hand, is appalling.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

It's tacky as hell. Looks like something that belongs in Vegas not here.

I would have perferred an art deco building.

The Mystic

I believe "The Mystic" is a name that simultaneously honors the place it's based and complements/works with Wynn's existing brand. Like Encore, it's simple, elegant, and intriguing.

I'm not sure what everyone expected, but as far as I am concerned this is meeting my expectations on what would be built 100%. Yeah the design of the podium in particular is ridiculously tacky but it is being built by a Las Vegas casino operator what else did anyone expect?

How, exactly, should a casino look like it belongs here? Is there some obvious "Boston Casino" motif what Wynn missed? Sheathed in brick like an oversized clone of Faneuil Hall?

The reason it looks like it belongs in Vegas is because all Casinos have a look that looks drawn from or a return to Vegas, whether an Egyptian pyramid or a Venetian palace.

The reason it does not look like it belongs here is because we've never had one! Does the BCEC look like it belongs in Boston, or does it look like a giant convention center. The best defense is simply form follows function and we've never had a casino function here, so the form will be unfamiliar/unlocal.

Actually, if you'll only be satisfied with historical, local references, Wynn's Casino stuff looks strangely like the Wonderland kitsch

I'm pretty sure that's what the idiots who proposed this crap in Brockton had in mind.

When the Mayor says "It's great, it could almost look like a school." You would think someone would realize how far they had missed the mark by.

Well FWIW we've had convention centers...

... and if they wanted to make this 'contextual' they could have put in the faux-frame of an old church, as so:....

I mean imagine the possibilities. They could have built a faux-abandonded tank farm and used the interior volumes as gaming floors or giant ballrooms. Or a massive old industrial hall like the power plant next door. I'm only half being sarcastic.

The only requirement of the casino motif is that is has to appeal to fantasy and give you the sense that you are leaving the real world and entering a different realm. What we have here is really only a transcendent fantasy if you aspire to a life of sanitized, generic luxury in, like, Naples FLA. Not that there's anythin wrong with that - I know a lot of people do.)
