I am so looking forward to the implosion of One Marina Park Drive in about 40-50 years.

The most exciting part of that facade mockup is when the glazing starts to tilt.

Maybe they should have kept the area as an undeveloped parking lot. At least that has more potential.

It's tragic that International Place's periwinkle PoMo Palladian window array is the most inspired piece of architecture in that photo frame.

On the other hand, I had a thought while looking at the pictures.

Even though these buildings are ridiculously fat, and the new ones fatter than 1 Marina, they somehow look less fat when surrounded by their tubby freinds. 1 Marina by itself is a lonely short fatso. Now it's like a weight watchers meeting, where they no longer look so fat, because they are surrounded by others like them, and there's no skinny building for comparison.

In the land of the obese, the merely fat man is king.

I feel they'll be thinking of redeveloping the site in only 30 years.

Nah -- this isn't Vegas -- everything in Boston stays in Boston for at least 50 years

give or take -- how long did the Travelers last before it was demoed?

This thought may verge on sacrilege, but I wonder whether you will all still revile these buildings in 30-40 years. Once the fat village is built out, demand for amenities will likely lead to street level renovation, for example. And we all know that street level is king. Will the stumps be so bad once they have stores and galleries ret-conned in to the first floor?

The loading docks and garage entrances will foreaver be an eyesore that will not go away no matter how much they add to the first floors.

But, to your point, the blemishes will fade as most do with maturity. And, full build out, occupation, and the ensuing density will make them much more tolerable and will also help them disappear to an extent.
