Four Seasons Tower @ CSC | 1 Dalton Street | Back Bay

Just an average Manhattan condo tower.

opinions differ (of course, and that's fine), but that strikes me as an overly negative assessment. if this shapes up to be what's depicted in the renders i think it'll be quite a bit better than "average" -- for Manhattan or anywhere, really. nice lines, elegant, and -- a rarity for Boston skyscrapers -- not overly fat/wide from any angle. as much as i love the JHT, that straight on, widest view is pretty fugly and 1 dalton won't have that problem from any viewpoint.

as for throwing off the balance or symmetry of the current JHT/Pru twin peaks -- my folks talk about how, in addition to locals making fun of the windows popping out and the whole "plywood palace" thing, a lot of people (apparently) thought that the JHT messed with the overall skyline aesthetic in a bad way. we're all just used to the back bay skyline since it hasn't changed (significantly) for 41 years. hell, i'd wager that there were those who felt that 111 huntington marred the "twin peaks" look, but these days those who complain about that tower only focus on the crown (which i think looks cool, but whatever).

Its going to kind of throw off the balance of our twin peaks.....

Hoping, in 8-10 years, East Cambridge has a true 180m tower, the West End projects are up, a grown up Downtown, tilted just a little by the rising 65 Martha Rd topping 860', balancing out a show stopping skyline that extends all the way to Wynn.

I just keep assuming that every time he makes a statement like this, he's trying out to be an urban planner for one of those Arabian Penninsula oil sheikdoms where there are dozens of gaudy pinnacles puncturing the skyline... none of which are more than 50% tenanted. Who cares if there's adequate demand? Odurandia demands extravagant skyline spectacle!

Have a little faith Moriarty. Have a little fatih. They'll build it–and the demand will be there. ...twin peaks for Downtown can happen in maybe 12 or 15 years if they start now; a generational thing passed down from Mayoral admns.

^Just curious. Howe much would it cost for you to leave this site forever? Name your price.

Can we all collectively agree not to be confrontational dicks to (possibly over-)enthusiastic forum members?

Here's a crappy cell phone pic from last night. Mostly I just wanted to say how much I am bleeping loving this building so far! I think this is going to look even better than Millennium Tower, albeit without the same street-level presence. It is going to liven up a mostly dead corner though, between the additional residents, hotel guests, and curiosity factor.

Agreed! The corner was definitely a dead one and will only help clean things up and make better use of the space.

countdown to someone telling you that you shouldn't be taking photos while driving (even if you were the passenger)...

thanks for the photo actually.

As a previous poster mentioned, the welcoming grace viewed from I-90 shall be a thing of beauty.

What's with the LED lighting all over the crane? Is it for show or is it for a nanny-state visibility for planes type of thing?

Once you can see this as you take the Red Line over the Longfellow, it's going to really start blowing minds.

I believe the construction company thought it would be cool, and so they did it.

That's correct. Suffolk saw this as an opportunity to build hype & marketing. It worked brilliantly. People who don't normally take pix of cranes/buildings are taking pix of it.

I suspect they'll do it on more jobs now.

then, it went 900' in the air,

and (for a good many of us) it felt really good.

at first i was thinking the globe had it wrong and that this couldn't be at 18 floors already, but: wrong, it is! three floors per two weeks sounds great. very excited about this one.
