Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Globe has a brief article that JetBlue will start one-a-day non-stop service between Boston and Charleston SC on Feb 28.

That's great. Charleston is one of the nicest places in the country, and I have yet to fly on any airline in the world with coach amenities as nice as Jet Blue's.

Construction as seen from Terminal A:

They're also plugging away on the Terminal B expansion. All of the jetbridges on the former American Eagle area have been removed and there's a barricade set up around the perimeter of the expansion site. Additionally, it does appear as though Alitalia has finally thrown in the towel on year-round service. Service to Rome will cease in December and resume in March.

Where did you see they were cutting service completely?

Has construction on the monorail connecting the terminals, the rental car center and the blue line station begun yet?

I believe they entirely stopped flights to Milan as well. I took that flight a couple years ago. I guess we will watch London and Paris and Dublin flights fill up quickly this winter.

Milan used to be their main international hub with Rome seeing a few long-haul routes, among which was Boston, seasonally. A few years ago(I forget exactly how many) they de-hubbed Milan in favor of Rome. Milan has of course retained a few long-haul flights to key markets(New York, Miami, Tokyo, maybe Sao Paulo).

Is the monorail for real? This is the first I've heard about a monorail being built at Logan! Great news if it's true!

I don't think it is true (not in any sense of being planned or likely). For now, the ConRAC (consolidated Rent-a-car building) is all about reducing bus congestion on the conventional curbsides, and most mobility planning is centered on better bus service. (consolidating means that fewer, fuller, more frequent buses will mean faster connections to the ConRAC)

Massport ordered new buses to service the ConRAC, and the individual rental car services will discontinue their bus services when the ConRAC opens. Massport built a brand new garage on the north side of the airport to service these buses, past the limo/bus pool and food service distribution center. I've seen some new buses in use, but not on a regular basis, so I'm not sure if these will be the dedicated ConRAC buses or new buses to replace the current fleet, which I believe they're doing in the next year or two. I'll try to take a look over there this weekend, maybe snap a pic or two.

Also, the Logan Twitter account noted that the free Silver Line promo from the airport to South Station has been extended through Jan. 6.

Hi i'm new here. a few weeks ago i was in terminal C at logan and i saw on the departures board flights to Kansas City, Las Vegas, and Oakland on United Airlines. do they really serve those Routes because neither Boston or the other cities i mentioned are hubs for them.

They were probably direct flights, in which the flight number stays the same from the originating city, through the connecting hub, and then onto another city. For instance, UA 1525 flies BOS>ORD>LAS.

Here are some pics of the new buses and garage--sorry for all the blurring.

Through August passengers numbers at Logan sit at just under 20 million. 19.98 million people have flown through the airport. Still on track for a record breaking 2012. Total international passenger numbers are up over 10% for the year.

Heard a radio ad announcing that Air Tran is transitioning its Logan to Milwaukee nonstop route over to Southwest. Is it me or is the AirTran/Southwest merger the longest slowest in airline history? Hasn't it been almost 2 years since the merger was announced?

I think in that transition takes place around the 12th of November. It's a shame too, because I do BOS-SFO a lot and if Jetblue's non-stop fares don't work for me, I usually fly Airtran via MKE. Now my only Airtran option is through Atlanta. No thanks.

Virgin America is a good choice to SF if the fare is OK

I've done it once and liked it a lot. The only reason I don't do it more is because I'm a Trueblue member and an A+ rewards member and Virgin America doesn't have enough routes to/from BOS yet.
