Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Because there are so many idiots (or foreigners who can't read English) who forget to prepay?

Which is why many garages accept credit cards at the automated gates and some even have pull-offs and payment machines right near the exit for those who forgot and don't have a credit/debit card. No need for 4 staffed lanes at 1:30am.

So replace the staffed lanes with automated pay machines with a "stupidity surcharge" above and beyond what's charged at the prepay stations. No need for staffed lanes.

Massport's an independent agency that's flush with cash so they don't need to make the hard decisions that other organizations make. That's what it comes down to.

My question is bigger than that: Have they instituted an EZ-Pass based payment system like SFO, and if not, why bother installing the PrePay system at all? If you're parking at the airport, you probably aren't a tourist...

They have a gold pass thing, not sure how it works.

Im ok with one lane, to cater to the idiots.

But not four.

Especially at 1:30am.

And as the other poster noted, there are machines that take credit cards, Ive seen it at malls in LA.

The other option, as he stated was having a pullout, simply 1-2 parking spots and a machine.

....of course, we hae the same kind of situation on the pike, people simply handing you a ticket. We need people to make change, but to give you a ticket...?

Not only do all of those pre-pay machines accept credit cards, but the GATES at the exit accept them as well. You know how you put your ticket in the slot? Well, you can put your unpaid ticket in and then credit card if you havent paid.

I am still waiting for open lane tolling on the Pike.................

Florida does it well. It hurts to compliment Florida on anything, but they do open tolling with no "cash" lanes. If you don't have an EZPass (or "Sunpass"), it's tolling by license plate which is a little more expensive than the charge with an EZPass. No toll booths, just drive right through. Similar to 95 in Hampton NH but minus the section of manned booths. Seems simple enough.

I remember reading an article awhile back about how Massachusetts was "studying" this very possibility for the Pike. Years later and likely millions spent, I have not heard a thing. At the very least, this NEEDS to be done at Allston/Brighton and at the 128 interchange. It shouldn't be that hard.

This thread is about Logan Airport and its flight destinations.

Passenger numbers for Logan continue to be up. Through July, over 17.1 million passengers have flown through Logan. Up 2.4% for the same period during 2011.

Any good indications from number on how Asia bound travel is doing with the new JAL 787?

Also, any guesses on next international destination?
Istanbul?
Beijing?
Rio?
Seoul?

I don't think we will see a non-stop flight to Brazil in a long time. I think Asian carriers are waiting to see how JAL does on Tokyo-Boston before another one adds a flight. Korean Air to Seoul would be a good bet if another carrier does join the Boston-Asia market.

There have been rumors and grumblings that Boston could get service to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines and Dubai on Emirates. Emirates has been expanding like crazy and there aren't too many holes left in their North American network, Boston being one of those holes.

The loads on the JAL flights have been very good thus far. That does not a full picture of the overall financial performance of the flight, but average fares are somewhat high.

I can see Brazil being added in 2014 for the world cup.

The World Cup might justify a charter or two, but an airline isn't going to commit to long term service based solely on a one time event.

I could see a KE flight to Seoul code-shared with Delta. Currently anyone loyal to SkyTeam has to flight through JFK, Atlanta or Europe to Asia.

I think itll be the trigger.

Brazil ten years ago had like 8 flights total from the us, now theres like 30

Theres also the olympics.

Is there direct service to Moscow? If not, 787 would seem like a good candidate to get it started.
