Logan Airport Flights and Airlines Discussion

Hainan is changing the routing of its service from Beijing - Capital. Previously, flights would run Beijing - Boston - Seattle - Beijing. Now they will operate Beijing - Boston - Brussels - Beijing. Service will continue to run 3 times per week for NW 2024/25 using Boeing 787-9 equipment. Brussels will be a tech stop.

Pretty cool in that this will be round-the-world routing.

Why is this necessary? Hainan was running both directions nonstop prior to Covid, using I believe the same equipment..

Russian airspace restrictions due to the Ukraine war? No polar flyovers for flights to/from the US means a much longer flight route..

Noted yesterday coming out of Terminal E that signs were flagging Etihad moving to Terminal C later this month. I know it's not that long of a walk, but I'm curious how the airline feels since it's a bit of a hike from the Air France lounge to the widebody-capable gates at Terminal C. Not that Massport cares lol, but I'm sure Etihad leadership will be happy to see newer, nicer lounges coming to Terminal C in a few years!

Also, after walking from E15 to customs, I'm really curious how moving walkways are going to fit in the new corridors -- It's already quite a bit of a tight squeeze. I did, however, notice the improvements underway at the older portion of Terminal E, including upgraded check-in desks to mimic what the new Delta ones look like closer to the new security lanes at Terminal E. All in all: Nice to see the flurry of activity at Logan! The new baggage carousels at Terminal E can't come soon enough -- was packed yesterday afternoon, and it's not even summer!

But Hainan is a Chinese carrier, they don't have the same Russian airspace restrictions as US/EU carriers.

Are there moving walkways planned in the near term or is that in a future phase of the expansion. I did the E15 to customs walk a few weeks ago and it is extremely long.

Koreanair has updated their NW24 schedules - B777-300ER will now operate the entire season instead of the planned B787-9 that was previously scheduled to run for half the season. I believe this will mean they are going to run the B777-300ER on their daily service year round now.

Delta will suspend service to the following European cities:
Dublin from Jan 05 to Feb 21
Lisbon from Jan 05 to Feb 19
Rome from Jan 04 to Mar 08 (this will run 4 times per week from Oct 26 through Jan 03 using A339)

I can imagine. I flew out of the new gates last time I was at Logan and getting from the old security to the new gates took ages, almost as bad as Schiphol.

I didn't realize the Lisbon and Rome service ran until January!

Southwest will run seasonal Boston-Austin again in summer 2025 but it will be daily service.

It's part of the US-China negotiation during post-covid reopening - US requires Chinese carriers reopening US-China routes to not use Russian airspace even if they could, for balancing the competitivity between US and Chinese carriers.

Ah got it, thanks! That makes a lot more sense.

American has added some February flights to take advantage of winter break and other events. Mostly weekend.

New Orleans - a few flights around Superbowl on E-175 plane.

Fort Myers and Orlando - a few flights around the February Vacation break. Boeing 737 or Airbus 321 being used.

Lufthansa will be bringing the 744 back to Boston next summer. One of their 2 daily flights will run daily using 744 equipment from May 01, 2025 through June 30, 2025.

Good to see the classic 744 back at Logan...I guess that will be the only 744 there now. Any word on if they will ever bring the 748 back to BOS?
