MCCA Hotels: Aloft & Element | 371-401 D Street | South Boston

I really dislike both of these as they near exterior completion. The Aloft has little of the color that it originally promised, no interaction between pedestal and tower, and looks terrible from behind. Element would have been better off not being white or off-white-- gray or black would have looked baller in this spot. And it needs a cornice-- looks like a closed cardboard box with all its smooth edges. Be interested to hear an architect's take on it.

I can deal with the Aloft. The Element looks like a casino that is getting ready for demolition. The rear looks like a prison. This is a lock for worst building of the year. It's an embarrassment to Boston.

It looks like Troy Boston and the Suffolk House of Correction at South Bay mated and shat that out.

Honestly both building look 100 times better in person, and at street level are actually quite nice.

The Suffolk County Jail looks way nicer than the backside of that hotel. The front is good though.

Thanks for the pics as always Beeline. Is the underside of the roof here staying yellow, or is that just temporary?

^^^ Looks like the final covering.
