We've had this discussion a million times in this thread, but the tower is entirely cast-in-place concrete. There will be no steel.

lol everytime someone informs us that it will be cast in place I get so confused, how does one simply "cast in place" a 625' tower? I'm sorry I never really understood it.

A lot of rebar and formwork.

This video illustrates how everything goes together nicely, but ignore the exterior, as they will not be pouring exterior walls and windows. The perimeter of the building mass will be open aside from the structural columns and edge of the floor slabs because the curtain wall will be attached to them.

So, stupid question. Do they do a topping out ceremony in cast-in-place projects, or that just an iron workers thing?

It's actually probably around 4' above street level, although I think it's a bit premature to call it "out of the ground" until the last basement level is filled in. Incredibly impressive site. Won't be too much longer until this is going skyward!
 
Wow that core is so tantalizingly close to breaking Washington Street and I still don't believe this one is happening... I'm still in disbelief over this one.
 
So how long do you think it will take to pour a floor and start on the next one?
 
I think the answer to the clock and Filenes can be found in these latest beeline photos..
 
Hey Guys, I'm back to answer a few of the questions you had:

Hi, statler. We are keeping some iconic elements in our restoration of the Burnham Building, like the exterior architecture. As for the Filene’s sign, we will be retaining the clock and two of our major tenants will use the clock signage for their identity.

As to your other question, The restoration company, NER, has several pieces of the granite façade stored in their facility, we plan to reuse these pieces in the site work around Shopper’s Park and the front entrance.

Good question, Boston02124. As of now, we have no plans to light the tower.

Thanks for you question, Rick. The tower is 625” to the roof of the highest occupied floor and there are mechanical equipment levels above this height.

To be fair, the facade is floor-to-ceiling glass. This thing will glow like a Christmas tree with all the condos. I would like to see some sort of lighting feature at the top though.
 
One of the crew said the big blue I-beam structure in the middle of the pit is the lifting device for the core, and will have climbed to the top of the building by the time it's finished.

If this is true then the tower is going to completely dominate downtown!

On another note, I know this has been brought up before, but I'm going to join the chorus and say that I don't believe that the Federal Reserve is, in fact, the current 3rd tallest building in our city. I'd say it's more like 7th. (ie lowest of the big 5 "plateau" buildings)

Does anybody know if the current measurements are accurate?
3. Federal Reserve 614' (just don't see it)
4. One Boston Place 601'
5. One International Place 600'
6. Bank of America (Pregnant Building) 591'
7. One Financial 590' (perhaps this is actually taller? sure looks taller than the Fed from every conceivable angle)

In that case the MT could be stretching 40-50' higher than anything else in the financial district.

The Federal Reserve tower is essentially at sea level. The rest of those buildings are higher ground than the Fed. tower.

One Financial is basically right next door to it. I stand between them all the time and there's no way that there's a 25'+ difference between the ground floor levels. Not to mention, 1 Financial always looks TALLER from every angle even though it's supposedly 24' shorter, so in that case there would have to be more of a 35-40' difference from where they start. I just don't see it. The only explanation I can think of is that there is a nearly invisible "stick" on the roof of the Fed that somehow counts as part of the official height. I know that they're up there.
