You can see it from the Summer Street bridge, walking to South Station as well.

I'm pretty sure I saw this from the Logan tarmac last night.

From Porter Square, it has almost reached the plane/line-of-sight of the top of the Federal Reserve Bank Building.

Budman -- nice shot

very Hancock-ish

PS anyone get a recent photo from the 9/10 floor of the parking garage?

Of all the developments in the Boston area right now, and there are so many, this might be the best in terms of design and potential impact on the city. I really don't want to see DTX turn into some chic urber-wealthy enclave but it's not like it would be such a bad thing.

This is closing in on 500 feet tall, and thus is becoming Boston's 17th official skyscraper (at least 500 feet tall). The first skyscraper to join the skyline since the State Street Financial Center over a decade ago.

To put that in perspective, Philadelphia only has 11 such buildings, Washington has none (Height of Buildings Act), Atlanta has 15, Detroit has 7, and Phoenix has none.

With the Four Seasons under construction, Boston should have 18 skyscrapers within a year. Only San Fran, Dallas, L.A., Houston, Miami, Chicago, and NYC have more skyscrapers in the USA. All of the sudden, our skyline is booming again!

Bigeman -- We are on our way to over 25 just as soon as a few more being discussed / approved get started building:

  • Copley
  • TD Garden
  • Basketball City
  • Aquarium
  • Congress St. Garage
  • Winthrop Square
  • Hancock Garage

and then there's Cambridge's 1000 footer!

There's potential for a world class skyline that rightfully represents the world class city Boston is if all these get built

True. But I don't want you to be led astray by whighlander's rambling.

Yes.

TD Garden

Yes.

Basketball City

Longfellow Place has gone through many iterations and it is very far from a done deal. It hasn't even been approved yet! Don't hold your breath: this development, at best, won't be topped off within the next four years, probably not six, and maybe not ever. It probably won't even be built as its latest proposal. Consider this hopefully part of a future building wave, but certainly don't count on it.

Haha. You and I both know that the Harbor Garage Project has a long way to go before it starts construction. For example, being approved. Like Longfellow Place, it probably won't be built as currently proposed and still has time to be butchered or fail to gain approval. Like Longfellow Place, this will not be topped off within the next four years, if at all.

Congress St. Garage

Yes.

Winthrop Square

Again, it most likely will not resemble the current proposal and still has a long way to go before being a sure thing. Like the Longfellow Place and the Harbor Garage Project, it will not be topped off in the next four years, and will look very different if/when it is constructed.

Hancock Garage

Huh?

and then there's Cambridge's 1000 footer!

Nonsense.

So that leaves three of the things he listed as probably happening in the next few years. Either way, Millenium Tower is growing and upgrading our skyline as I type this!

To be completely honest, I forgot all about the longshots, winthrop sq and basketball city. Even without those the skyline will be noticeabley extended. I hope Millenium tower is visible from the waterfront but I feel as though this will have much more of an impact from the park and west but I don't know, I'm excited to see how things end up

Here is a rough approximation of how it would look on Google Earth.

It's the white building barely peaking out to the right of the International place Towers.

Does Seattle make the cut?

They have 18 counting all the under construction buildings above 150 m based on the skyscrapercity diagram.

MT makes 19 150m buildings. Marriott Custom House at 496' and the older John Hancock Building at 495' get added on top of the already existing 16 500' buildings.

I'd say MT is just about hitting that number, 150m. It's starting to form the 39th floor. I'll feel comfortable calling it 500'+ at 40.

sorry this building kept popping up everywhere yesterday these plastic signs tacky later that nite and again this morning

I'm gonna guess it's at about 475" currently. It looks to be about the same height as MP1 from Northeastern.

It's looking really good. I still can't believe it's happening sometimes...

Boston -- no apologies needed!! -- It's now omnipresent and your pix are great -- keep clicking

PS: I'm almost going to miss the construction activity on it -- it will be a quite a while before we see another project of similar magnitude as centrally located -- no offense to the Back Bay. or even North Station -- its just not the same as the DTX or the Financial District
