One Canal (formerly Greenway Center) | Bullfinch Triangle | West End

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

I figure as much, but I can't find a render that shows the treatment of the parking facade. Nothing deadens a facade like pseudo-windows masking a parking garage.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

Are those ramps for above-ground parking that I see?

Correct.

Unless this project has no parking at all, above ground parking was the only way to do it. It's being built on top of the CA/T.

It's next to the CA/T, but on top of the Green and Orange line tunnels. There's only one basement level, and it is only for resident storage units, IIRC.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

^ Got it. I knew it was on top of some tunnel or another.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

BeeLine, always going up in them garages and getting the dope angles...thanks for those!

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

There is a market basket going here right guys??

Haha. That would be quite a turn-around!

But, there were some rumors about which supermarket would open. I don't know if they ever officially announced anything. Trader Joe's could be a good fit, in my opinion. Their closest location is in Back Bay, and their Back Bay and Memorial Drive locations always seem to be doing good business.

Too small of a space for a large supermarket (i.e. Market Basket, Wegman's, Stop & Shop, BJ's, Hannaford, etc.).

Roche Brothers could be a good fit as well.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

Not sure if a market will go in here. In the long saga of bringing an "affordable" grocery store (read: anything but Whole Foods, which the old timers love to hate) to the North Station area, this parcel was originally supposed to get the long promised market. Then the negotiations turned to the Garden parcel, where a grocery store was finalized, and the neighborhood groups seemed satisfied. I believe there's still some provision in the agreement for One Canal that they're required to build a market if the Garden doesn't, but it seems that the Garden's 100% at this point. This spot could definitly handle a smaller market though. Trader Joe's, the new smaller Roche concept store, or similar would be great additions.

Doubt they'd go for it since they're putting a store in Downtown Crossing.

Tower crane pictures make me want to make-out too.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

So I thought the design of 1 canal was the three different "towers" along the curved street line base but on trinity's website it shows 1 large curved building without varied height...what is this thing going to look like?

Right now the garage is much taller than the rest of the project and I just can't picture it.

Actually I think I just found some renderings on an old business journal article...this thing is going to make the area feel much denser than it is currently...hopefully it adds to the sustainability of the area retail...especially the north Washington corridor.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

Agreed on the density. Already the steel frame st. wall has transformed the area around the tunnel entrance from an interchange to an intersection.

What N. Washington st needs though is wider sidewalks, and that wont be easy...

This building will have 21,000 sq feet of retail space which is great news for the neighborhood.

Are the 21,000 sqft going to be marketed as 1 large space? Or multiple smaller spaces?

Good question. Originally the neighborhood had wanted a supermarket here, but when the TD Garden development agreed to have one, this project no longer required it. So it would seem they could break it up into multiple smaller ones if they wanted to.

Is that one signal from the old elevated still on the side of the MBTA building? That was by and large one of my favorite things walking through there.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

As others have said, this development really does bring a different feel to the area. I haven't been down there recently myself, but it's very obvious, even from photographs.
