One Canal (formerly Greenway Center) | Bullfinch Triangle | West End

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

A couple of snaps from 54 Canal today. It will obstruct our view of the Old North Church, but hey, there are bigger problems in this world.

Imagine this view with all the other developments that are planned within the scope of this shot. Crazy.

Does anybody know if this is getting a supermarket as promised? Or was that a bait-and-switch?

I believe it is now going in the TD Garden towers. The latest renders included a Star Market in a few of the pictures. There had been desire for One Canal to house the grocery store, but I think the requirement was effectively dropped after the TD Garden project was proposed to carry one. However, there is still a large retail component that I haven't heard an announced tenant for yet.

The Victor has done a decent job in filling their ground level with Tavern in the Square (Open), Massage Envy (Under Construction) and Jimmy Johns (Rumored?). While the Avenir which has been open for about 5+ years appears to still have a lot of retail space available.

Supermarket gets discussed every few pages if you want to scroll back through. Basically, One Canal has a provision that if the Garden expansion doesn't have a supermarket, then One Canal has to have one. Personally, I think they could both put markets in and do well if they were slightly different. Like say, one is a Star and the other a Brothers (small Roche) or a Trader Joe's.

I hope they don't charge the same amount for those billboards as they did back when you could see them from the highway (or even a block away).

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

To be completely honest, this is one of my favorite developments in the city. Not necessarily for the building itself, but more just for what it does for the area. It completely changes the whole intersection. Once the Merano gets built, there will be a retail corridor from Causeway up to the side of this thing, which should wrap around nicely to the Congress garage redev. Not to mention the impact more residents and retail will have to the Bulfinch neighborhood in general.

Wow that is massive. This project does great things for the area's urban environment.

Are any of the three heights visible in the above photos at top-out yet? Or is everything still going to be taller?

Lovin all the angles and bump-outs!

Love this!

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

I have yet to be down there but it looks like this has a tremendous effect on the feel of the place simply as steel. When this actually looks like a building it can only be better.
