One Canal (formerly Greenway Center) | Bullfinch Triangle | West End

Beeline, thank you for outstanding weekend updates.

I have to say that I am really liking the shape of this building. With the Merano development coming soon, you won't recognize this part of the town anymore.

Yeah, it's nice to finally see the building get buttoned up. It's still not clear to me how they're integrating the MBTA substation on the back side situated on Valenti Way.

Are those penthouse floors double-height? Massive windows. I bet the views are fantastic.

The top few floors are high enough that they should have views of the North End, Harbor, Greenway, and some of the Financial District skyline.

This thing isn't a beauty but the more complete it is the better it looks. I don't love it but I don't hate it either. Looks from the windows like it is getting serious retail space on the first level too?

Nah, definitely 2 different levels, just a different facade treatment. The use of the colossal order helps make tall buildings appear shorter, which is important when developing on the Greenway to quell opposition.

Note: I'm NOT in any way agreeing with the way the Greenway development works, just commenting on the politics of the way things get built.

That clarifies why this building is so squat and hulking. I would have preferred some height variability anchored by a supertall.

Saw this in person while in town. Ugly as sin but the ultimate effect this has along with the other landscrapers in the Bulfinch Triangle successfully knit the city back together in ways not seen for a long time.

Yes but ... will the ultimate verdict on this area be that the 'canal street incline' has just been moved south a block or two and is now the haymarket incline (/onramp)?. (Working on the assumption that the ramp parcel doesnt get covered at any time in the next 75 years)

I have no problem with this. Solid unoffensive infill. I'd take tons more construction like this pretty much anywhere.

Okay, it's a good compromise, given the political realities and the apparent need to sustain a certain look and profile of the Bullfinch Triangle.

The hint of a cornice makes it a bit more digestible visually.
