BOSTON - Some of Boston's tallest office towers will turn off interior lights at night for the next two months as part of Mayor Thomas Menino's efforts to conserve energy.
The owners of 35 skyscrapers, including the Hancock building and Prudential Tower, have agreed with the request, and will turn out lights above the 30th floor between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. starting Wednesday and continuing through Oct. 31.
The move is expected to save about 25 percent in lighting energy costs.
The effort, dubbed Lights Out Boston, comes as Menino prepares to host a national green building conference in November.
Patrick Glynn, general manager for Broadway Partners Real Estate Services, which owns the Hancock tower, says tenants are excited about the program.
