Looked at units here last weekend. It is crazy that they have done so little to "activate" the waterfront. This place is amazingly easy to access (steps from Maverick T and water taxi right there). Building manager talked about taking the water taxi to Seaport or Charlestown for waterfront dining... really begs the question why not offer that HERE!

I heard no plans for that kind of waterfront amenity in either Portside phase 2 or Clippership Wharf next door. Seems like a huge missed opportunity.

Guys over at pier 6 are in talks to buy a place in eastie directly across the harbor similar set up and run free boat shuttles between the two spots which would be amazing...not exactly sure where or its gone through yet.

Also fratarolis are building Cunard tavern nearby...but ya I completely agree, why wouldn't they offer some restaurant space in the buildings.

As an urbanist like most of you on this forum, I'm in the same camp that I'd like to see more waterfront retail/dining in Eastie. However, as a resident in this neighborhood I would hate for any new retail to cannibalize the existing local spots in the neighborhood. KO Pies at the Shipyard, Italian Express Pizzeria, a dozen Mexican/El Salvadorian gems, Maverick Marketplace, Santarpio's... Maverick Square and Jeffries Point have some excellent local spots.

If something to the scale of Liberty Wharf is ever built here, it must distinguish itself from the existing spots, be able to operate year round, and (hopefully) have some sort of civic or arts venue anchor the development to draw visitors from the region. Not necessarily the Sydney Opera House or Guggenheim Bilbao, but... you know... something distinctive that'll justify visiting the site. I dunno, maybe the Boston Museum...
 
This project was proposed in 2006! It really is amazing how long it takes projects, from the time they're proposed to the time of completion. Granted the recession hit and all but I have to wonder, what's the average time from submission to the BRA to project completion, in the city. I'll guess, hmmmm, 6 years? No wonder the cost of housing in Boston is sky high.

To be fair, phase I of this project has been complete and open for almost two years now, so it's not quite like this project has been languishing since 2006.
 
Ok, that's fair. So, 8 years. That's still quite a long time.
 
Where's the current renders for this project? I checked the whole thread and didn't see any.
 
The BRA site has Portside at Pier One complete. Is this Clippership Wharf?

^ This development is Portside Phase II. Clippership is separate and not under construction yet.

This rendering is the Clippership Wharf project (site-work started -- CORRECTION). Portside One (completed) would be just to the right of this set of buildings. Portside Two (under construction) is even further to the right.

Clippership is currently under construction. Site/Marine work is ongoing..

These cpmplexes are like the ones in Chelsea: built for professional colonists in working class neighborhoods. Apparently the local retaurants lack the snob appeal, and prices, of the toney downtown hot spots.
 
Why all the greenspace on the non-waterside of the project? What a waste.

Eh... I'm not a fan of the developments but more because they're ugly, and whoever would choose to live here must care nothing for aesthetics... a black spot upon their character and probably indicative of deeper moral shortcomings. And in addition, yeah, sure, they attract urban jerks invading another neighborhood. Ha.

And yet... who are we to really judge, anyway? Neighborhoods change. The world changes. This is how it happens.
