Providence developments

It’s very nitpicky but those utilitarian grey streetlights all over providence are hideous -_-

They don't have those types of lights in the more historically significant sections of the city such as the East Side neighborhood by Brown just a few blocks from downtown.

Those types of lights are also not along Westminster Street which was the old downtown retail center:

They are also not along Memorial Blvd which was only created 30 years ago when the rivers were redirected and surrounded by a liner park.

WHEREAS: Providence's patron literary saint, despite his appalling racism, remains HP Lovecraft; and,
WHEREAS: HP Lovecraft's outstanding contribution to the modern horror universe was his popularization of all things tentacle-y;
THEREFORE: it is decreed that all Providence light poles shall from here on, in homage to Lovecraft's truly *monstrous* genius, sprout tentacle-y appendages from which shall be suspended said light poles' lights.

Signed, Cthulhu
[who knows a thing or two about that which is hideous]

Agreed I’ve always disliked those lights. Something more stylized like these In the DC Navy Yard which are inexpensive to replicate would be ideal (both examples).

For Providence overall I’d probably lean to the second option — the black simpler streetlights as to fade in.

Photo Progress Update on two new Brown University dorms on the East Side - 250 Brook Street and Danoff Hall (259 Brook Street) near the intersection with Power Street. Designed for upper-division students, these five-story residence halls will feature two-, three-, and four-bedroom suites, communal kitchens, and enhanced programming space. Scheduled to open in Fall 2023, they will add 351 total beds.

Stunningly exquisite front door. Bleak, confusing & auto-centric back door. Hopefully the latter will change as part of the renovation.

Isn't the Food Hall to be on the bottom basement floor that opens to the back in the space that was previously the Capital Grille and Bar Louie? The Rhode Island Foundation occupies the upper part of the center building of the former 2nd Union Station (1898).

My concern is that the former tunnel that went under the old station from the ice rink to the Waterplace Park side might not be kept and remain open all the time. It was located between the Capital Grille and and Bar Louie spaces. It has been closed for months now.

This building won't win awards, but the render (of the rear of the building) they went with above is pretty terrible. It actually has a human-scaled street level which adds new street wall. The mechanical "stuff" on the ground to the left of the building is actually already there, as are the paved walkways through the grass. Again, not an award winner, but good infill for an area that's quietly filling in at a decent clip.
