Radian (Dainty Dot) | 120 Kingston Street | Chinatown

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Any reason why that street shouldn't be narrowed by at least one lane?

It used to be three lanes each way and the northbound traffic is funneled up by South Station and is horrific. That street carries a lot of downtown traffic towards 93S or Back Bay by way of Kneeland. Its very busy in the evenings.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Thanks CC! I hope you enjoyed your visit. Great pics. The shape of this building is looking great.

BosDevelop nailed it. That right turn onto Kneeland is brutal. However, the # of lanes is necessary for both commuting and weekend hours.

No problem. I figured I should get some shots while I was up there and contribute some more to this forum.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Try as I might, I've googled 120 Kingston for all available renderings and not ONE shows anything like the cladding that is shown in that sample piece! Nothing even comes close to it so where the hell is that going, and please, don't tell me that's what the whole building is to be clad in! I'm not one to judge a building before it's built but that sample cladding, seriously, it's like a nightmare! I just don't see anything like that mish-mash in any of the renderings! Can a builder pull a bait and switch?

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Thanks for the close-up here of the cladding - the materials may not be as offensive as I first thought, but these windows - ARGHG - are these a Home Depot manager's special? What's with the blank vomit-colored panels within the frames?

Fix those and we might have a relatively inoffensive building - certainly nothing "ionic" enough to distract from the vaunted Greenway, but nothing too terrible either. Too bad, of course, it had to replace the Dainty Dot as opposed to any one of the empty parcels around the highway interchange just a block lower.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

I hadn't noticed the textures on the cladding before- big improvement. This might be a building that looks better up close because I definitely could not make them out farther away.

Those windows are still pretty unfortunate, however.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Admittedly looks less bad than the paneling we saw before. But that was a low bar to beat.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Is there a way to make them gray instead of the usual bland color?

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Oh thank god. The samples with the smaller windows must indeed be intended for the garage.

These panels aren't great but they are an improvement.

yea but that means the street level is going to be disgusting

I just glanced at the rendor. There looks to be large retail windows lining Essex Street and most of Kingston Street, leading to the garage entrance.

I think the mock ups are more an example of materials and textures and not actual sizes.

I thought this was supposed to be all glass?
