Seaport Square (Formerly McCourt Seaport Parcels)

The Seaport Square project as a whole is on the BCDC agenda tomorrow - not sure why but could be movement on the other L blocks or on Block G. Seems unlikely it would be Block D (88 Seaport) since that one has its own life as a project, but who knows?

It may also be a continuation of this discussion from last month about the new Silver Line headhouse next to the District Hall:

It's design review of Parcel P, which will be leased by Foundation Medicine

Thanks for the info! That's going to be a pretty big deal, since it also includes a deck over E. Service Road in the massing. Prior renders have also tied a grocery store to the Congress St. frontage.

The Fort Pointer on Twitter was at the meeting... this building was originally proposed to have a performing arts center in it which has been the subject of a lot of Globe opinion pieces and community activism... and WS chucked it as soon as they saw Foundation's dollar signs.

I'm not as convinced as TFP is that cultural space is a "build it and they will come" proposition, but the BPDA needs to be doing a lot more to hold WS's feet to the fire to build even a small portion of the cultural space they committed to.

BCDC presentation for Parcel P is up:

Interesting notes:
They're using both air rights over the ventilation parcel and "back of house" functions under Summer St- really attempting to make the most out of a oddly shaped site.
No mention of performing arts facility in the presentation.

EDIT: Also, we should probably create a thread for Parcel P

Exciting. This should be a really solid project and I like seeing selection of an architect who can make things with depth and character. Although is it just me or do they spend the entire "Exterior Expression: Building Design" section highlighting some pretty clumsy collisions in cladding? Those corners where the two schemes meet aren't the most elegant.

This is the kind of quality we need more of here.

Just flipped through the presentation and the fit, finish and quality of materials looks very good. Living close to some of their NYC projects, their final product quality is very good and seems to fit the context of the neighborhood. This, along with Echelon, will add much needed texture to the seaport.

Globe reports on Trader Joe's and Porter Square Books, neither of which are in Seaport Square buildings. However, they do get Yanni Tsipis on the record as saying the full-service grocery store and performance center are still WS commitments.

Could see that as kicking the can when they were both expected to be in Block P. Presumably they would now be in Block N.

Thanks for the post, Equilibria. Does anyone know what's planned for "G 150 Seaport"? It's the lot on the corner of Pier 4 Blvd and Seaport.

AFAIK, nothing has ever been formally proposed or suggested. There was one rendering years ago with a speculative building that had a slot/arch diagonally through it for Northern Avenue, but since the road was rebuilt at right angles that's obviously unlikely.
