Gordon's Boston to Bring 600 Wines, Moody's Deli, and More to Downtown Crossing

Here comes some luxury retail in DTX...

Not sure this is luxury...they said their wine would be among the cheapest in the city. And Moody's is a deli...Overall I think this is a big win for the area.

On a similar note, does anyone know if street improvements are planned for Temple Place or West Street, etc.? All of these sidewalks are chewed up asphalt and gross.

Hopefully this helps increase foot traffic and people can enjoy all the amenities of Tempe place especially wig world.

The way the deli was described sounded rather upscale, but I've since checked out Moody's Waltham's site and the prices for the food are typical market-rate for downtown Boston. Regardless, I've changed "luxury" to "upscale" in my original post, as a wine shop & fine deli are definitely a step up from TJ Maxx (not that there's anything wrong with TJX, as I've made clear previously).

Speaking of... When does TJ Maxx open on Newbury St/Mass Ave - any idea?

Moody's has the best Charcuterie in the metro and its not even close. Definitely upscale all the way.

Moody's is really not much more "upscale" than Sam LaGrassa's which of course has been a fixture in DTX for decades. Sure it's not comparing apples to apples since Moody's does superb (and prices to match) charcuterie and slices meat to order to take home and Sam's just does sandwiches for the most part. But they are both easily two of the most expensive "deli style" sandwiches in all of New England. I don't see a liquor store combined with another expensive sandwich shop/deli changing the character of the retail in DTX.

It should be noted that Moody's is a terrific wine store, notwithstanding the fact that they don't have luxury prices. I'd say this is a huge win for DTX, and a good sign for the future.

GNC is finally close to opening on Winter Street in DTX. Construction facade came down a few days ago.

449 Wash = the Tello's space. Interestingly, most Forever 21 stores are bigger than 20k sq. ft.

Average size of a Forever 21 now is ~38,000.

Theres really no giant one in Boston?

From 2011

The retailer also took over an 86,000-square-foot former Mervyns at Los Cerritos Center last year and a 91,000-square-foot location in Times Square in New York. Its new Las Vegas flagship is 127,000 square feet, about the size of an average Target, and in September, it will open a store in Mission Viejo in a building previously occupied by Saks. Its biggest store, at 150,000 square feet, opened last month at a shuttered Gottschalks location in Fresno.

I expect better from Boston than some rinky dink store about the size of the Fresno changing room area

It's a Forever 21. It is what it is. I'm just happy another retail spot is being activated with something other than a pharmacy/dunks/starbucks/bank.

I don't understand why anyone would be annoyed this forever 21 will be smaller than most other locations. It's in downtown Boston and the only large retail spaces there are filled. They can't just stick it in a large mall like they did in Fresno.

Smaller = no mens section

Says it will be open till 3 AM Friday through Saturday, have a dance floor downstairs, and a liquor license. Talk about a hybrid restaurant.

Are there other places like this open till 3 AM? Have never seen this before, and I'm a huge advocate for a 3 AM last call (even though this place obviously is 2 AM for Liquor)

Well, they're open until 2 in portsmouth, which is a much smaller city...

First, it was bayvillagebrahmin that posted the link. Secondly, you are in no position to be accusing people of making posts that convey no useful information.

Jouhou - ignore this fool and his comments to you. Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing the time they're open in Portsmouth for reference.
