The New Retail Thread

One just opened in Central Sq. a few weeks ago. And yeah, they're always packed. We have too few coffee shops if anything.

This may not qualify as new, or even "within the past 3 years", but I was surprised to see how snazzy the Fenway mcdonalds was. They even rotated the entire kitchen to allow a walkup window.

Previously, it was a toxic dump

I couldnt see posted hours though. Are they open past 10pm now? Always embarrassing to see thousands of red sox fans going home and the Mcdonalds closed

Breastaurants just don't strike me as being very hygienic.

Apologies if this has been mentioned- but a very good source told me that H&M will be opening in the old Barnes and Noble space in DTX. They never wanted to leave the neighorhood but they were unable to arrive at aggreable terms on the lease at the former location. Still finalizing details on the new lease, and no official opening date has been announced.

Fantastic to hear that the old B&N will finally be revitalized after a decade of dormancy. H&M wouldn't have been my first choice, but I'll certainly take it over the current state of that property!

This is HUGE. A floor-to-ceiling glassy facade to get rid of that looming windowless old B&N facade is just what that space needs.

Can't think of a better location for this, but David Barton in Park Plaza is shuttering its doors...

Only been open for a handful of months.

Per the BBJ, this was not specifically a Boston location issue. 8 locations including 5 in Manhattan closed. The entire chain is in trouble.

Where was the old B&N located in DTX? For some reason I thought it was in the current flagship Walgreens location but that can't be right.

Borders was in the Boston Five Cents Savings Bank, now Walgreens

Someone took a perfect head-on pic of it recently, but I can't find it... Here's one I highlighted from the MT thread:

SlothofDespond -- No that was the old Border's Books

B&N is down Washington St opposite the Burnham Bldg [Filene's]

Brookline Bank is moving a few doors down to the corner space in the S.S. Pierce building in Coolidge Corner (vacated by Walgreens in 2015). Posters in the door as of today call for a Spring 2017 opening. An unnamed midsize burger chain is eyeing one of the other spaces in the building, says someone I know who tipped me off to Brookline Bank months ago. Would have come here with the news earlier, but it's a bank branch, so.

Interesting because Lee's Burgers (original location in Newton Centre) opened a second location not that long ago smack in the middle of Coolidge Corner. Could it be Tasty Burger?
