Waterside Place 1A | 505 Congress Street | Seaport

Re: Waterside Place

I think it's just the end of a hallway with a small window- International Village at Northeastern has a similar set up, a small hallway with elevators on both sides. Gave some great views of Longwood/Our Lady of Perpetual Faith.

Glass elevator with ocean view?
I've always wanted to push this button.....

Nah, that would be a huge waste of space and doesn't make sense with the configuration of openings. I'm willing to bet money that this is just a standard elevator lobby set up with elevators flanking the sides of that window.

Re: Waterside Place

I'm pretty sure you're right. But, there is no whimsy in that.

Re: Waterside Place

^ The world does need more glass elevators. They bring a human, emotional touch into architecture.

The only exterior glass elevators in Boston are at the Hyatt Harborside (Logan Airport): 3 great Fujitecs with a view.

But there are no openings on the fourth side of the core. So you'd get out of one elevator and have two choices, climb out the window or get back in one of the elevators. I guess it could be a core with just a single elevator, but that seems weird for a building that size.

I will draw up a plan. I miss architecture anyway.

Re: Waterside Place

I'll say this. The "thinness" of this when looking from Boston proper will do wonders for this area. Everything else over there has it's broadside towards downtown and if it has a narrow side it faces the water. Seems bass ackwards. Seems you would want to maximize rooms or offices facing the water. The downtown view is nice while it lasts, but future build-outs will gobble that up.

But, developers in Boston are nothing if not short sighted.

Not sure, but...

Imagine if the Seaport had a finer grained street pattern. It might make sense to align buildings with the narrow sides toward the water, maximizing view corridors, with all inland buildings on any street having a front face and rear face with some connection to the harbor.

Re: Waterside Place

A lot of the PAX East photos I've been seeing have great pix of Waterside Place and 319A in them.

Re: Waterside Place

Exterior cladding has started. From today.

Re: Waterside Place

It's been a while since I read what was going on here... this is a hotel but what about the "mall" section?

Re: Waterside Place

The tower is luxury apartments Van. The mall portion seems to have mostly died. Phase II is a retail component but it's not being touted as the big destination shopping mecca that it once was. And I believe Phase II is largely built over ramps to the Pike. So who knows if it will ever happen.

Re: Waterside Place

Seaport Square will have 1 or 2 "malls".

Re: Waterside Place
