Winthrop Center | 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

MP is a valued and important corporate citizen of our city. Their accomplishments have changed parts of Boston for the better. We owe them a measure of gratitude. We do not, however, owe them our silence. This current design is not worthy of them or us. Hyperbole aside, this design as now rendered may, in fact, diminish their legacy here and sadly blight our architectural landscape. This feels more like bait-and-switch.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

I’d rather they just build this with out the tower or maybe a 48 story version of this

That would help this scheme to migrate from incoherent rubbish to dated, semi-coherent rubbish.

As a rule, contemporary Boston buildings usually have one façade that makes you go "Why... why couldn't you have just made the whole thing like *that*?"

Quite so...

Over the past fifteen years, the sad trend has been to articulate facades "polystylistically," with a result that at best has all the focus of a grade-school collage, and at worst, the vibe of an extortion letter. Boylston Street in the Fenway is littered with these lame gestures, thanks in part to Kairos Shen's incompetent and tasteless stewardship of the BRA; the goal was to break up an oversized footprint into smaller "buildings;" the result is a visual cacophony worthy of a billion dollar flea market.

This is insanely bad. Who is the architect?? I could design something better on a napkin.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Curbed has a higher-resolution render that shows detail missed in the BRA filing. I would post it here, but my post would be deleted.

This render shows much more depth in the facade than you can see in lower-res versions; e.g., the "offset windows" are not flat but undulate, the lower-rise section has fins and cut-out balconies, and the "orange side" has pleated framing around the windows.

I'm still wicked disappointed with this redesign, but this more-detailed render makes it look not quite as atrocious.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

How can you present something to the public which the parcel I'm assuming is owned by the city than completely change the design?

And for the people sticking up for the Millennium group claiming they have done great things in Boston. These corporations are all the same.
If I bought a condo in one of their buildings and the building started sinking into the ground a year later. Do you think Millennium is going to give me my money back.
The Downtown tower Millennium developed is beautiful for the city of Boston but they also had to reap some taxpayers incentives. I think they made a boat load of money on this project but just had to get that extra 15 Million in incentives to get the project started. Try using private investment money instead of public

I don't like the new design compared to what was presented to the public which is why I choose Millennium proposal. Never seen anything done like this. This was very SNEAKY & Deceitful in my opinion.
But after watching them maneuver over the San Fran Sinking property. These people that work for Millennium group are pieces of SHIT.

It's fucking garbage. Grreed + greed + greed on full display by ALL parties involved.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

A few thoughts:

1) Dislike the new design. The city must have some leverage to say no way to this.

2) Having said that, its important an improved version of this design gets built, even if its not as good as the renderings we were all sold on. Not only for the $153M which isn't exactly chump change, but because if you miss this development window we'll be staring at the ruins of a garage for another 20 years.

3) Lastly, it still matters that this buries NIMBY's even further down than they are already. This is their Waterloo. I don't care if it ends up looking like that cube the Borg fly around in, I want to see it built up to/around the 700 foot mark just to piss them off. :D ;)

Come on, dude. It's 2018. You need to put at least a little bit of effort to make your trolling believable. Right now it's just an auto-ignore post.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

BUT. THIS is NICE BUIlDIN!!!!!! NISEST YOU WILL SEE NEXT 2O yrS!!!!

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

It's not so much a troll as it is a schtick. I never really got the joke behind it but some folks find it charming, so eh...

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

It is uncomplicated. Boston must lose a few million dollars in exchange for better cladding and massing at 115 Winthrop Square. By all means, we must prove to the world that we are not this desperate or ugly:... that we can in fact, do the right thing.

We are in a significant boom. Keep the promises made to all beneficiaries, and source the cash via revenue from the greater boom.

This is the signature Downtown tower.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Obvious sarcasm shtick, which I usually enjoy, but it isn't quite as subtle this time around as it typically is.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Looks like a Wynn casino.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

It looks like and oversized parking garage , worst proposed tower in Boston ever! How did we go from this to this pos 🤦*♂️

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Planners don't have to look (far); The JHT is a pretty good example of what an iconic skyscraper looks like. If you build a shitty building, not only do you fuck us, you make the nimby imbeciles look like the righteous protectors of the realm.

Re: 115 Winthrop Square | Financial District

Dial from Accordia at one end to the maximum VE'd garbage at the other (redline).... The needle now points all the way to the extreme red. i assume this will be on Tuesday's BCDC agenda (the day before i get back in town). If i were able to attend, i would bring a poster with the various proposals taking their places on the dial to bring home the reality of just how desperate and ugly we have become.

Anyone good with Photoshop??

We need to mobilize - direct information for the presentation.

In the meantime, who do I/we contact to fight this garbage? Email or phone number would be great.
