Balconies are definitely a personal preference. I'm on the side supporting balconies. Why?
I would love to be able to work outside while being able to use my own reliable wifi rather than from a cafe and given that I work from home, it's a convenient place to be able to be outside the house. It also provides some extra storage space to store your bike or just relax in the sun.
I'm also on the side that I don't find balconies as a negative to the design and feel like they give buildings more depth and breaks up the monolithic facade that a lot of buildings suffer from.
For example, I prefer the Residences at Century Plaza in Century City over their taller cousin, One Dalton, because the balconies give them much more depth and makes them more interesting.
But yeah too each their own
