State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

Then there is the Big Green Skybridge to Nowhere -- Connecting GE's soon to be occupied HQ [by end of 2019] with a building across the street [originally part of the NECCO complex] -- but there is no actual connection as the other building is occupied by another company

GE restored the bridge as part of its contribution to the community -- so when is a Skybridge not a Skybridge

Because if they're up there, they're not down here helping to enliven the street the development is designed to enliven.

The streets in that area will be very active once this development is complete even if some office workers and residents use a connection to get to the other side. You will have the hotel traffic, non-office workers or residents using the retail not to mention nearby is of course the Public Market which generates a decent amount of foot traffic. Up and coming North Station area is a stone throw away and plenty of people will be walking between the Government Center/Quincy Market area and North Station as that area continues to develop.

gerbil tubes like what you're proposing are a very '70s/'80s concept that in all but a very few cases have kind of uniformly been proven to be BAD ideas for all the reasons outlined.

I don't necessarily disagree all I am asking is if this is one of the few cases where it should be considered. I've crossed the street many times in that area and while it will be different once the development is complete, it can be a dangerous stretch of road. I've seen many people fly through there doing 40+ mph especially if the light is turning and they are trying to make it through.

I can't see an argument for this. There are much less expensive options for making the pedestrian crossing safe at street level. And the vast majority of those crossing will not have access to the sky bridge anyway. Seems like a solution looking for a problem and not something we need.

With respect, you've been "just asking questions" despite a number of considered responses to your query, with a notable consensus.

And yet, here you are 4 days later replying, why? Sorry for asking questions, I guess. So, if 3 people say something doesn't work (with such intelligent comments as "god forbid people walk across a street" included) I suppose we should just cease all discussion of that issue. What the hell is a forum for if not to ask questions, to respectfully respond to answers and, from time to time, respectfully disagree with each other? Jesus, you would think I said this project needs to add a 10 story above ground parking garage.

You’re a busy, busy Bee...line. Thank you for the pics, as always.

I tried going back as many pages as made sense to avoid getting in trouble, before asking the following question(s):

In the Sudbury thread, as you all may recall, there was considerable consternation among the faction with the lack of progress during foundational work and into the first 5-10 floors. I would imagine this is going to be quite a lengthy process, with winter coming also?

Also, will this construction will rise steel or concrete? Anyone have any idea?

In immense apology if this has been posted but this was the first time I've watched this particular video on the project. They had one prior that was Winthrop Square quality but I think this is pretty cool. Take a look if you haven't yet.

OMG....Talk about effective use of media! Genius. Hits all the right nerves and emotions and is the best visionary presentation I've seen since the proposed World's Fair in Boston for 1975 in the Globe magazine section. (we're going back to 1962!).

I havent seen any night renders that I can think of, but it would be a sin if this is not lit. Maybe have some lighting running up the front face culminating in a lit crown. Or if they had LED strips running up each of the 2 big folds from the ground to the roof that would be awesome. I really hope it is, it would be so iconic.

you haven't?!!!? this one has been posted here a bunch, as have other similar renders. certainly looks to be lit up.

I couldnt tell if it was really lit or just appears that way, but youre right it does look to be. Hopefully those are leds across each floor plate.
