The Sudbury (Bulfinch Crossing Residential Tower) | 50 Sudbury St | GCG Phase I | Gov't Center

Get yourselves up to the high floors/ or roof of the (Airport) Hyatt.
When you get a few hundred feet up, the Downtown area renders more height and depth.
This thing is 7 feet shorter than the round topped fat a/r tower next to the Pru.
This thing looks ~80 feet taller.

Poolio -- some nice vantage points -- once again because of the lack of a grid -- Boston buildings continually surprise when they pop-up is strange juxtapositions with other unrelated buildings in the foreground or background

Some of these will be tremendously enhanced when the companion State Street Tower is up -- or even when its Crane is up

Such a great view of this building. Gotta enjoy it while we can.

I wonder... is anyone else slightly annoyed that the "steps" at the top of this building aren't the same height? I'm not complaining... nice clean roof line, consistent extension of the facade, no obvious mechanical screen, unique shape on the skyline... but man, just a few more feet to even up those steps...

Every single time I look at it. It's one of those "once you see it, you can't unsee it" things. I still love the building and the steps. But I'm the type who is also super annoyed by the one random out of place lighter panel on the Hub on Causeway's residential tower.
 
The Sudbury will consist of 368 apartment units and 55 for sale condominiums.

Philosophical questions:
Condos: who will buy them? Local financial titans? Oligarchs who've bought their kids way into BU? Are they likely to be empty much of the time?

Apartments: Who (what kind of worker) will rent there? Do corporations lease a block for temporary relocation? What motivates & funds that kind of $ outlay? Should we picture practical "live close to work" walk-to-work commutes. Or someone who Ubers from this tower to some other downtown each day? People who like looking down from high places? Who will I bump into in the elevator?

True, should have been kept consistent. Also there shouldn't have been any banding on the left and middle sections where the right-side setback is located. It disrupts the verticality and just looks kind of odd.
 
The lowest "step" is much wider than the other two. In that sense, it still wouldn't have been "consistent" even if they had the same height increase between each step. I really think it would have looked worse if the smaller top "step" had as much of a height difference to the middle as the wider lower one.

Plus, there's only 3 steps total, so it's not like there's 1 jarring black-sheep ruining an otherwise harmonic production. If there were multiple identical step-ups and then one of them was clearly different, it might be bothersome. However, it only steps up twice. It's fine. Better than fine really. I already love this building.

Arlington -- you will mostly bump into just ordinary folks as owners of Million Dollar Condos are commonplace in Greater Boston these days. Same mostly goes for people who spend $3k per month on an apartment. All it takes is a family income of something over $150k per year. For the record the BBJ published a list of places in MA with lots of people who had incomes over $1M -- Boston was #1 on the list with 2513 filing income of $1M or greater in 20-17 up 313 from 2016
