Wentworth Institute of Technology Expansion | Fenway

630 Huntington Ave dorm has been moved to: https://archboston.com/community/threads/wentworth-dorm-630-huntington-ave-fenway.5957/ As a reminder, large projects should always have their own threads.

Wentworth Dorm | 630 Huntington Ave | Fenway

The article references a "vacant site" which is a very tiny park in the corner next to Baker Hall (620 Huntington) and 610 Huntington: If it's going to have 200 beds, it's going to have to go high on this site. Here is the site. This was formerly a gas station until April 2008. The site was...

[ARCHIVED] Harbor Garage Redevelopment | 70 East India Row | Waterfront | Downtown

Not sure if we're ready yet to reopen the main thread, but just FTR here is the original thread URL. Dumping it here because it's impossible to find; took me 15 minutes. https://archboston.com/community/threads/aquarium-parking-garage-redevelopment-waterfront-downtown.936/

Station Landing | Wellington Circle | Medford

Is it though? Boston is the destination, not Encore. Encore is an attraction in Boston, not a destination. No one is coming to Boston specifically for a mediocre Encore experience. Encore is something you do on a free night you have in Boston. I highly doubt people are traveling to Boston to go...

Whittier Choice Neighborhood | 1158 Tremont Street | Roxbury

Just fantastic what Brent Toderian calls "missing middle" housing.

Station Landing | Wellington Circle | Medford

Huh. Very interesting massing and siting/proximities. They really should try to enclose that whole parking lot from the street. This is smart infill and desperately-needed program. More keys near transit can never hurt!

New Red and Orange Line Cars

They are an accessibility requirement to help visually impaired people find the doors.

MassMutual | 10 Fan Pier Blvd | Fan Pier Parcel E | Seaport

I asked in a Facebook comment and a S&F guy verified there were no caissons placed. This is just a mat slab. Yes, there are subgrade pumping systems for the parking garage in all these buildings.

20 stories... no piles, no caissons... just wild right next to the Harbor. They really are gonna float this thing on a mat slab.

S&F is pouring the 2800 yard mat slab today:

ACC/NU Residence Hall | 840 Columbus Ave | Northeastern University

I really like the massing and facade of this. It still manages to look tall even with the horizontal spandrels at each floor plate because the proportion of the volumes are dominant in the vertical.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

This, exactly. Regional Rail is not dependent upon NSRL, but NSRL is dependent upon Regional Rail.

General Electric HQ (Necco Buildings Reno) | 5 Necco Street | Fort Point

I have no idea where Fort Pointer got this, but this is apparently the revised proposal... I really like it.

Regional Rail (RUR) & North-South Rail Link (NSRL)

This is incorrect. The fourth (and originally last) resolution IS related to this. It resolves to immediately report this board vote to the legislature so they can approve the bond bill and its provisions including legalizing P3 procurement for the MBTA (they currently cannot under MGL) which...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

He's not kidding, that's literally how Rudolph's corduroy concrete was done: No. The staircases are wildly non-code compliant. They would need at least one, probably 2, center handrails and the tread depth, nosings and risers would all be non-compliant.

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

I'm coming around to tearing down the Hurley today. The initial shock has worn off. The Lindemann is more architecturally significant anyway, imho. We get some density/housing, restored grid (hopefully), mixed uses, active streetscape and we still get to appreciate the Lindemann. I'd be more...

Hurley Building Redevelopment | 19 Staniford St | West End

Rather than destroying it, they should be calling Bruner/Cott or designLAB in to add some glass and do a strategic reworking of the ground level spaces ala BU Law Tower (Sert) or UMD Carney Library (Rudolph) to enhance the characteristics of the brutalism, rather than erase them. There ARE ways...
