Steffian Bradley has gone out of business after 87 years

Has anyone heard any more details about what happened? Did all the branch offices close too? (except UK- I heard they were still open)

Millennium Tower (Filene's) -Discussion and Photo Thread

Re: Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown I'm pissed the previous developer was forced to keep it at the cost of at least a million dollars. The floor heights seriously hamstrung the Elkus design team in that corner of the complex. So many complicated design issues...

Or, an "ionic" Boston view, if you are Mayor Thomas M. Menino.

Green Line Extension to Medford & Union Sq

Sounds like the groundwork is being laid for cancellation. Too bad Charlie will get all the blame because this is a culmination of years of indescribable mismanagement and overregulation. The actual blame list is too long to print here. Woulda been nice.

    Boston 2024

So, can we get on with fixing the T and the roads now? I heard the Red Line was down again on Saturday. Mass Pike was clogged at 7 on Saturday morning, too. Olympics, indeed.

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

When I was at Elkus, working on the previous iteration of this building, I was repeatedly told that the reason the tower was 40 stories was because of FAA regulations. That was obviously bogus. Still, I'll always wonder why Vornado/Gale opted for that ridiculously complicated cantilever instead...

New Red and Orange Line Cars

I don't care what the new cars look like as long as they get the largest volume cars that will fit in the tunnels of each line. London tube trains aren't particularly attractive but I was astonished how many people they could fit at rush hour.

    Waltham Mayor Proposes Monorail

I must applaud the boldness and audacity of the idea. 128 is a parking lot as is Waltham's streets at both rush hours. So, any kind of people movement involving buses or anything that adds to road traffic is looney and just adds to the problem. The concept of people-moving unfettered above the...

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

When I was doing survey work up there in early 2007, the upper floors were office space. All painted gypsum board walls and act ceilings. Nothing very special.

    Waltham Infill and Small Developments

Re: Downtown Waltham Streetscape Improvements Gosh, you'd have to take out all the parking or widen the streets. They're packed curb to curb during the rush hours right now.

Re: Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2 what is Paul McMorrow talking about? Isn't the Handel Filenes tower 20 stories TALLER than the Elkus design?

    Millennium Tower (Filene's) | 426 Washington Street | Downtown

The City insisted that the 1905 facade be retained. It presented an enormous wrench in the works. Everyone on the team was hoping it would fall down when the surrounding buildings were demoed because of the design difficulties it presented to the new tower. Millions were spent engineering and...
