Hmmmm should I be worried considering I like ADD and the direction they've been going? I honestly know nothing about power plays like this.

ADD Inc of Boston to be acquired by Canada's Stantec

Stantec, an engineering and design conglomerate based in Canada, has agreed to buy ADD Inc, a 210-person architectural firm in Boston.

The deal, which Stantec says will strengthen its business on the East Coast, is expected to close in September. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

ADD Inc, which employs 130 people at its 30,000-square-foot Boston headquarters on Summer Street in the Seaport District, specializes in architecture and interior design. The firm work has included spaces for multifamily housing, hospitality, retail, higher education and corporate office developers.

I wouldn't be too worried. Stantec has a very similar design approach and philosophy. They do great work. I think they'll work well together.

Stantec actually did the Armenian Heritage Park on the Greenway. They were also the Architect of Record for Renzo Piano's ISG Museum Addition.
 
Sorry to say it guys but I'm moving to NYC next week. I'll be back and forth a bunch but I think it's safe to say the typical kz deluge of pictures is going to drop off to a trickle for at least a little while.

As most of you guys know my band is my meal ticket, and while things on that front are going extremely well (major, major things are in the works) it's also crunch time and we've decided to hole up in a little shack in Brooklyn (I know...soooo hipster cliché) and grind out this upcoming album. All of this became settled today, so if this news seems rather sudden to you, imagine the chaos going on in my life haha. I haven't even begun to process this fact nor will I as long as I have so much logistical shit to figure out ASAP.

But one thing I will say is that I grew up in New York State to a dad who worked in NYC and have been wanting to live in the city and be a "true" New Yorker as long as I can remember, and I guess I'm finally getting that. It's only in the last year or so that I truly fell in love with Boston -- before then I was always leery of Red Sox fans and the Irish (I'm an introverted Frenchie) and the provincialism, but something clicked last year where I made peace with the place and I realized just how good of a direction the city is heading in. And with that I say farewell to Boston and a big hello to New York Fucking City.

I'm in basically the same boat, I've been up here since 2006 but its only the past two years or so that I've gone from just living here to loving it here. I still love going home to "the city" though. Out of curiosity, whats your hometown?
 
kz, thank you for sharing so much of your work with us. Dead serious, you have pushed me to become a better photographer, and I really appreciate that.

Best of luck in New York, and if you have any shots from there you'd like to share with us, I certainly wouldn't complain!
 
Kz, good luck. You're definitely one of the good things about ArchBoston. They have internet in Brooklyn (I think?) so check in every now and then.
 
KZ, as a guy who left Everett St (and also right off of North Harvard Ave) in Lower Allston, I can say you will miss it. But, ultimately you're moving to NY and if anything shit gets more dynamic. You will miss the neighborhood that more aptly reps your 20's along with the rehearsal places/ venues you jammed at (probably got tipsy at a few times as well). Basically you will associate it fondly with your youth. But your a successful musician, so plenty of great times await. As a hobbiest musician myself, all I can say is go Fucking get 'em! Don't ever look back, reinvest, and take what's yours. I work in aviation, which is far cooler than most corporate companies, and even then your like fuck this shit at times. I will miss your pictures deeply. They help me reconnect, but on the side I've been rooting for you for quite a while. So enjoy whats coming to you, and keep us in the loop. If your band is ever in Charleston SC I'll try to attend.
 
Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys -- I'm still more or less in shock over everything. I did however realize that I'll be living a literal block from where Do The Right Thing happened errr was shot errr was filmed. So that's...interesting.

Kinderhook, 20 minutes southeast of Albany (just off I-90 as you're heading for the Berkshires). And yes, it's nice to be heading for "the city." Over my toilet for the last year I've had a poster print of the midtown skyline at sunset so every time I'm pissing I have that to stare at, and it is GLORIOUS.

I like that you say that because I can honestly tell you're getting inspiration from me, and I think that's totally awesome and 100% encourage that kind of stuff. Keep at it dude and just continually strive to get better and better and your already awesome shots will get even more awesomeballzzzzz.

And yeah I suppose I'll have to post some NYC shots here...I'm sure I'll be able to scrounge together a few thousand photos I think are worth sharing, and then everyone can get sick of me in no time at all, yay!

Well thank you! That's a very kind reply of you. I also really appreciate the perspective on time and youth... at this moment things are so hectic that I never would've thought that 'til waaaaayyyyyyy down the road. And speaking of "the road," all I'll say is that the tour life can 100% leave you muttering bloody murder, just like any other job. The only thing that differs are the perks, and the perks with this job are pretty fucking sweet ;)
