Avalon Exeter | 77 Exeter Street | Back Bay

This building's best side might well be seen from ground level on Boylston. It has used many of the same materials/colors as the Lord and Taylor building. The long white brick, cool green glass and metal panel trim are very very similar. While L&T is not exceptional in any respect it serves as a nice complement...like a pair of shoes that complements a nice suit.

I give it a B+

Check out the finials...when's the last time we saw these on new construction?

Channeling downburst's great shot with both this and the Hancock's glass together...

I like it. I liked it better before the glass when it was Art Moderne redux, but its still a classy building with a bit of a deco vibe. Clean lines with a bit of expression (especially at the roof).

Dave -- Ditto -- of course anything that blocks part of the view of the 60's turkeys is a benefit

This tower kind of reminds me of the First National Bank Tower in Omaha, without the top and stronger art-deco influence.

^^^Also without the height but I see the resemblance

Beeline -- that last view west behind the BPL is disappointing

While it does block some of the less pleasant views of the Pru and its earlier Apartment Towers -- there has to be a higher standard when you are directly behind a masterpiece

I think I would have preferred that the eastern facade had been unadulterated glass curtain wall

The way it is now -- its a bit like a nice print of the Mona Lisa with a Velvet Elvis in the same field of view

The battle for good architecture around there was lost a long time ago (hellooo Westin). This one is fine although I will say it does distract from the Library a bit when standing in Copley. At least it isn't some half-assed historic blather like the Trinity Place condos.

KZ == you don't have to look at the Westin

Unfortunately from Copley Square in the mid-line of Trinity and the BPL -- Arg -- thar she blows

To modify my earlier post -- you've got a nice quality print of the Mona Lisa or some other great art and you chose to hang it on a wall papered with a replicated pattern of Elvis or Pinocchio or even Abe Lincoln -- it just doesn't't work

I love love love what's complete, but I'm a bit frustrated by how unfinished the top appears. I'm assuming (hoping) it will be covered at some point?

KZ, I've been staring at that last one for 10 minutes now. Wow.
