Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Why are they having such a hissy-fit over this now? It has to be put somewhere.

did I miss a topping out, or will that not happen until the ornamental "swoosh" / Gumby reaches its apex?

This is so cool. Not only does it put a bronze tower on our skyline but it pulls the urban landscape out even further from the core. This and assembly bring our high rises much further out from downtown than they were. Adds to the urbanity of the area surrounding the city.

Are they going to dredge the area in front of the casino? Looks like at low tide it becomes inaccessable. I know theyre going to have a high speed low-slung water taxi service from rowes wharf that will be fast n low enough to make it under all of the bridges without the need to raise them. Its going to be a fast and easy way to get to the casino from downtown- right at rowes wharf. Looks like how it is now though that will only be possible when the water is not at low tide which will make them have to scrap half the trips-not good. The Mystic is deep enough though they can dredge it and it will be fine.

Welp there she is folks. We can now see exactly how tall it is and its final form. Looks great. The further out from the core we have high rises the bigger the urban footprint shown pretty well in this picture.

Does anyone know if theyll dredge the river in front of this? It gets extremely shallow at low tide.

I hope they don't dredge the river. Intertidal zones are a critical part of our coastal ecosystems, and something that I would imagine being rather unique along the Mystic, since that reach of the river has been FUBAR for a long time.

OH NO! THE BOATS! DREDGE EVERYTHING!

Sorry, being a wetland ecologist, I tend to be cynical when I hear things similar to that. How many docks, piers, marinas, etc. exist in Boston Harbor? How much inter-tidal area exists? Hmmmm...

That being said, I fully support this project. I should point out that there is restoration of a portion of the intertidal zone, as shown in the foreground of the first two pics stick pointed me to. The embayment in the background is where the dredging is to occur (see last two renderings).

The boats will live to see another day...

Well fortunately for you I can imagine the sediment there is too toxic for anything to grow in, and dredging might actually improve everything downstream of this.
