Encore Boston Harbor Casino | 1 Broadway | Everett

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

The article mentions it really as a much more complete waterfront recreation complex with not only a football stadium, but additional fields, playgrounds and waterfront access. It actually seems like a good way to improve public goods and access for all at a time that the city is also focused on comprehensive rezoning and improving transit. Never lived in Everett but seems like a valuable step as they try and use Wynn as a larger catalyst for growth.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

The plan, which must be approved by the Everett City Council, would include the city “swapping” the Lynde Street Park land with land recently purchased in Everett by Wynn Boston Resort Casino. Wynn would take over the Lynde Street space and in turn cede Everett the land it needed to complete its recreational parcel, pending Everett Board of Aldermen approval.

Any idea what Wynn is going to do with that park land?

It appears to be a soccerfield/two baseball diamonds now

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

- Marsh/wetland restoration
- Riverwalk
- Multi-purpose field spaces & stadium for a championship-winning HS football team
- Adjacent to the Northern Strand Community Trail/regional trail network
- Preservation of WWII-era stadium-wall at current site
- Funding presumed to be largely from a non-taxpayer source (Wynn)

This is great planning. Way to go, Everett!

That looks like it's on Dexter and Robin. Is the "Lynde Street park" not on Lynde St?

Yeah I was confused by that too, if you google "Lynde Street Park" you get to this website which says it's actually on Dexter.

Ending Bow St at Mystic St would probably be the best improvement (and they show that). When I bike from Cambridge to the Northern Strand, that 300ft of shared bike lane is super scary. Drivers peel off Broadway at over 40mph. There is no one conflict point, it's drawn out. 300ft of checking over your shoulder for impatient drivers tying to turn.

Also, what is "new sidewalk and bike path"? Is that their way of removing the bike lane and saying bikes should just use the sidewalk on that side? Or is the "bike lane" on the other side of the street two-way?

^ For plans on 99 at the Casino, I'd read "new sidewalk and bike path" to be essentially a double-wide, color-coded sidewalk, such as we've seen on Western Ave or Vassar St in Cambridge or on Commercial St in the North End. Bikes on black or green asphalt, Pedestrians on concrete or brick. Something like that?

Personally, I'd have rather an inbound Bus-and-bike lane on the casino side (and conventional sidewalk) and the put the bike-and-ped sidewalk on the outbound side.

For the Rotaries, I like it any place they've separated the circle-access lanes from a "just going one exit" slip lane (which is how people drive anyway, but is currently done as people drive too fast on the far right past cars lined up to get into the circles)

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

So Everett is using their casino windfall to build a high school football stadium along the Malden River. That is the most Everett thing possible.

Sounds like that is 10 acres out of the 30 acres of former GE land at the end of Air Force Rd. And that leaves Wynn with 20 acres for a development there. Nice property next to an athletic facility with parks and a waterfront trail.

As an aside, might be good if they can connect (reconnect?) Air Force Rd with Canal St. Otherwise Air Force Rd (which they should probably rename if they don't reconnect with canal st since GE is no longer making stuff for the air force there) is going to be the only way in or out.

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

The Cheesecake Factory-like podium is truly unfortunate for such a beautiful contemporary tower.

Not that I know of. I was just using it to describe the facade style & massing.

Sorry for the confusion. I kind of feared it would be interpreted like this. Editing.

Looks remarkably like Key Lime Cove indoor water park in suburban Chicago. Imagine all the water-borne germs in that place.

If this ends up be anything more than a stadium with a large parking lot and some waterfront grassland with a few asphalt paths running through it, I will be pleasantly surprised. And even so, putting a high school stadium on waterfront property is poor planning regardless how it's paid for or how nice the landscaping is around it.

(Looks like we posted at about the same time with the same idea - i drafted this before I saw your similar post)

Haha. Great minds think alike (about tragically bad design) then!

Re: Wynn Everett Casino | Everett

cHEESY FACTORY HAS BEEN MY TAKE ON IT. nOW, i'M LEANING MORE TOWARDS THEY TOOK THE wYNN Tower in Vegas (the first one), and dropped it on the Palazzo podium.

Odd mix to say the least.
