Forecaster Building Addition |121-127 Portland Street | West End

I hate the ugly and cheap looking re-cladded side wall of the building. It covers up a lot history and interesting evolution of the original building. I'd prefer the original wall, warts and all.

the lucas isn't a slow project...it's low-viscosity olive oil at worst...far from molasses

If it where the architects choice they would have clad it in marble.

I'm just happy to see a piece of the old West End preserved rather than torn down even if they had to attach that...thing to it.

Add 104 Canal (Forgotten One)... the boutique hotel at 88 North Washington (Hated One), and finally, '121' getting it's long anticipated twin (You're Going to do What?/Too Tall 270' One). Bring the bold and beautiful to the Corner. And how 'bout a big hand for the North End activists!

Maybe the wall cladding had value for energy efficiency? Insulation & radiant barrier? Besides, what's going next door? (wont that cover it all eventually?)

I wouldn't want the sun baking that southeast brick wall in summer, or the air chilling it in winter. Probably a LEED thing.

It's definitely ugly but I'm thinking that lot gets developed sooner than later and you won't even see it. It's great to see more residential built downtown especially the ownership variety.
 
^^Precisely. And for the few years while we're waiting, maybe the owner/s can sell some classic throwback add space paid for by firms like GE, Ford, Coca Cola, Hershey, LL Bean, Campbell's Soup, Hoover, Gillete, Heinz, Charles Schwab, KFC, Pepsi Co, Johnson & Johnson and Levi Strauss.

I wonder if that was the original plan or if they had to do some extreme value engineering after all the problems with the original contractor?
 
What is up with the windows in the original building, and all the plywood inserts?
