Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos

I wonder why green line trains go out of service so often.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos

but they need to do a better job of letting people (including their own people) what is going on.

Lucky you, your bus knew to go to Wellington. Mine went to Sullivan and a bus stand attendant came over and said everyone could get off...

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos

What was this guy thinking?

Say goodbye to your pension moron!

http://www.boston.com/yourtown/news/somerville/2011/01/mbta_driver_fired_for_allegedy.html

SOMERVILLE ? An MBTA bus driver, who was allegedly found with an open bottle of vodka in his left jacket pocket while on duty, pleaded not guilty to drunken driving charges today and was released on personal recognizance.

John McCarthy, 61, declined to speak with reporters as he left the Somerville District Court this morning. The veteran MBTA employee was allegedly driving drunk in Somerville on Friday night when he rear-ended a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Medford Street and McGrath Highway.

No one was injured.

Police said McCarthy failed a number of field sobriety tests at the scene and that they found an open bottle of vodka in his left jacket pocket.

The MBTA notified McCarthy in writing that he has lot his job with the transit authority.

In a letter dated Jan. 23, MBTA General Manager Richard A. Davey notified McCarthy that he was ?hereby discharged from the employ?? of the MBTA because he violated the T?s ban on any type of alcohol use while on the job.

He was ordered to surrender his badge, pass, rule book, keys and any other material owned by the T, according to the letter signed by Davey.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos

I was reading about that last night. What an idiot! When is one eligible for their pension at the MBTA?

I wonder if the union will at least fight for him to get a partial pension or something. If not, this guy is f^?ked.

"the T?s ban on any type of alcohol use while on the job."

What about hand sanitizer? Them subways is dirtyyyy! Or mouth wash? Need to have fresh breathe if you're a CSA!

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos

So Friday, thanks to a snow storm a Amtrak wire collapsed causing delays on the Providence/Stoughton line. It also apparently shut down track 2 around Rt. 128 station so only one track was usable. Unfortunately the T lacked the ability to manage that problem and decided to run the Boston bound Amtrak, a Canton bound train, and a Boston bound train through the area at the same time. The Amtrak breaks down pulling into the Rt. 128, or so they say. What I really believe is that with a train heading south and a train heading north, the Amtrak could not move forward or back. Regardless if it was indeed broken down (or maybe they shut off the power to fix the fallen catenary wire), the T lacked the knowledge to have the commuter rail trains bypass the Amtrak by moving it off a different track before pulling into the station and thus avoid having all 3 trains stuck for over an hour.

Our tax money at work, I bet they get overtime for sitting there and waiting for the Amtrak to move.

Depends which agency's dispatchers run that route. It could be Amtrak, CSX, or MBCR. For example before the state purchased the Worcester Line CSX managed all traffic on that route.

(quote)
As part of the agreement, CSX will be granted easements to move freight on the Boston to Worcester line, but the track would be owned by the state, which would assume responsibility for maintaining the line **and control dispatching of trains, once the purchase is completed.** Mr. Mullan said the agreement must be approved by the MBTA board.

Many of us also proposed a bidding war between Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra for naming rights of the 2 Longwoods.

hahahahahahahahaha "six flags"... they are always taking over riverside.

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos

So get a load of this story!

I get to Oak Grove at my regular time, head down to the platform and what do I see? A train sitting, waiting for me. So I get on the train wait a few moments, the door closes and we get underway.
Then! The train proceeds to make all of all regular stops without any delay, finally ending up taking me downtown in timely and efficient manner.

Un-frikken-believable.

No fires? No police action? No disabled vehicles? Wow! Miracles do happen. =)

Orange Line experiencing 30-45 min delays in both directions between Oak Grove and Wellington due to signal problem and disabled train. Please use bus routes 97, 108, 101 and 106 to connect with Orange line service between Malden and Wellington/Sullivan station. Please use Green Line service between North Station and Back Bay area to avoid Orange Linwe delays. 1/28/2011 8:52 AM

You jinxed it.

That's pretty much my experience everyday, though I board at Forest Hills. Is there a big service level discrepancy between the two ends?

Re: Driven By Customer 'Service' Parte Dos

This morning the Providence/Stoughton train was 25 minutes late. When it arrived, it overshot the Ruggle's train station by four cars. They were lucky enough that the train was able to stop in time that the last door on the last available car open for riders was 2 feet from passing the end of the platform.

It then proceeds to nearly overshoot the Rt 128 station.

^^To be honest it my experience most of the time as well. It just that this week the T had A LOT of weather related troubles on the system so this is actually the first time all week it has gone smoothly.

YES. I feel trains are more likely to go disabled on your end judging by T Alerts, but it gets cleared in an efficient manner. Everything on this end is always a mess. Always. Someone could puke in the lobby of Malden Station and everything Wellington-Oak Grove would shut down.

I could see there being a big tussle to append a corp name onto Kendal/MIT/Cambridge "Center", esp. amongst the big drug companies. (Genzyme, Amgen, Biogen, Shire, etc.). Or maybe even Microsoft Cambridge?
