MIT East Campus - Kendall Square Gateway | Cambridge

It’s blue and squiggly. What’s not to like?

Alas, they’re probably not going to implode the old grad student housing.

A good power washing or some fresh paint would go a long way.
Not going to happen. Eastgate will be taken down, though not by implosion. I guess we'll know when exterior demolition will start when a crane starts going up next to it.

They should just give MIT students a deadline and a set of requirements (e.g. no debris outside of a certain radius, no seismic activity detected above X threshold). They would probably come up with a pretty novel approach to rapid disassembly.

Recent building in Kendall has been very pleasing to my eye, substantial and wonderfully 'normal' looking for their context. They excel in neither trying to be noticed nor blending into sameness, but in creating a 21st century neighborhood norm that still relates to the many 20th C examples around them.

The outside isn't the problem. It is all the dilapidated embedded building systems, in an unforgiving for retrofit architectural package..

MIT seems to have a better design sense than BP. That gives me some hope for the Volpe parcel.
