I’m not sure how I feel about the cap to the old building - mixed feelings, but have to wait til it’s finished and to see it in person.

My favorite aspect of this project is that they are saving the facades of all the old buildings. My favorite piece of the project is the hotel(?) with the offset windows, and how it fits into Devonshire Street.
 
I don't know what to think of this design.
I don't love it or hate it. Its just weird.

One of the things I love about the Devonshire facade is that they didn't go with a blank wall over the elevator core which is right up against the facade. Instead, they went with windows on the lower floors and the windows slowly taper inward as the building rises. It's clever design and I really appreciate it. It's something I wish other buildings would do (ehem, 45 Province).
 
This project fills me with optimism for what might be possible elsewhere in the city. The cap looks like something a 1950's graphic artist would have drawn in response to a "Boston in the year 2000" prompt, right alongside several rows of flying cars of course. Give me 15 more please.
 
I love this building too - It looks like a "real building" as opposed to the glass boxes so en vogue these days
 
I wish it "leaned" to the right instead. It makes me feel unsettled when I look at it. Like it's going to collapse into the alley.
 
One of my biggest hopes for this project is coming true:

As you can see in the render:

there was a 'wooden' undercarriage to the jewel-box that I was afraid would be value-engineered away. I love that this final bit is coming in to create a natural tonal separation between the older building below and the jewel-box above.

Maybe not completely clear in this photo is the way that the undercarriage undulates. I am hoping that they light it at night so that it glows.
 
This was a win from the start. It just had to follow the AB curve of Excitement --> Distrust ---> Disgust ---> Resignation---> Unending Praise. Normal.
