State Street HQ | One Congress | Bulfinch Crossing | West End

It's interesting how this development has changed the overall look and feel of (for lack of a better term) Regina Pizza Square. One of the things I always liked about going there for the pizza, was the way it suddenly appears from within a dense knot of streets that lack any external visual cues. This is no longer the case, now that there are two sky scrapers so prominently visible. The feeling of being lost in a delightful urban maze is somewhat diminished.

I get what you're saying. It's the feeling I got in Fez, Morocco in the magnificent Suq there. Feeling of being lost on a different world and time. In places like that, an uninvaded canopy is particular.

I still LOVE LOVE LOVE those two towers in the pic and wish Boston had more, but I totally get what you're saying also. Often there are a few negatives to something that is overwhelming positive.

My favorite part of the city has always been the visual juxtapositions between the old and the new. Dense historical streets with skyscrapers looming in the background. This just adds to those amazing juxtapositions while also improving visual connectivity. For instance, this type of view has always been *my* Boston in a nutshell:

Regarding connectivity, this used to feel like a wasteland at the end of the city...

But now you're still wholly "in it" with the skyscrapers looming overhead.

Generally I agree with that concept. But the North End is unique and I have a different perspective on it -- @shmessy got what I was saying, particularly with the Fez analogy. As for the rest of your post, don't mistake what I said about one specific vantagepoint for my overall strong enthusiasm for this project. It is indeed a fantastic group of buildings that substantially upgrades the area in fundamental ways.

I don't disagree but I can't wait for the day someone steps up and takes on Greenway Parcels 6 and 12. Those ramp filled holes still are major visual and experiential barrier between the North End and the City.

They just got done with that sign... are they going to immediately change it?

Huh. That would seem to be remarkably poor planning, if so. That said, I dislike the current/former State Street “logo” (if printing two words in Times New Roman can be considered a logo…), so I’d be into the change,

the correct answer here:
along with sidewalks open as well.

But even that timeline seems to have slipped. I'm now hearing goal for northbound is "end of September" where as before it was "by September" or "in September" I can't remember which. Given that they still have not started work, end of September could be a stretch.
