The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Actually really impressive.

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

May I have a slight simple deco massing leading to a tall pole with a star on top in each corner of the podium of the RCA Building there?

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

IIRC only the podium is getting built, the towers come later so they are likely placeholders.

I thought the residential tower was going up with the podium.

I don't love those designs, too much going on with no clear idea what it wants to be. The earlier renderings at least had more cohesion. This isn't the Fenway where it benefits from looking like 3 or 4 different buildings, this is a landmark location. Design something that knows what it is and is proud. This design would work anywhere else but right here it's very disappointing.

You trippin. The design will make the area a landmark. The whole idea behind it is to make each component look different, and busy. It works.. quite well.

Don't you love architecture discussions.

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

I actually think it is a dramatic improvement. the middle tower in the old render looked out of place. Also they got rid of that grey shaft on the left of the left building, a great decision. I do say that the right building looks a lot the top of 100 federal, one federal, one beacon, some angles of 100 summer, and 28 state street. we really do have a lot of similar buildings

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

The tower on the right appears to be about half of One Beacon lopped off and photoshopped in. Granted, that's a much later phase, so it's absolutely a placeholder.

The part of this they actually designed - the podium - looks awesome. I can live with the "three stacked Waterside Places" look on the residential tower. As long as they were going with nostalgic facades, though, could we at least have gotten a render of a giant stone arch over the arcade?

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

If the towers are just place holders then maybe I'm being too harsh but I get the feeling they are going to keep going in this direction anyway. The old Garden/North Station reference is nice and I wish they would have extended it into the second podium.

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Is it me or is the concept of the renderings similar to Harbor Garage?

I like the ground floor but not sold on the upper top half of both towers.

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

The tower on the right looks incredibly ugly, like it was actually built in 1970s or 1980s Boston and fell into a time vortex to get here. The little building in the middle leaves a bit to be desired and would probably look fine if it were a different color. The rest of the design looks nice.

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

The MBTA needs top billing at the arcade - make the T bigger than the TD Garden lettering. Make it visible from the Haymarket bus station. It's not like the T is going anywhere, but by the time this is built, I'm sure the sports arena will be known by yet another stupid sponsor name - maybe the swoosh center by nike.
Got to agree about the squat tower, it's almost as piss poor retro as the Wynn casino tower.
The people doing the renderings really need to think about what they are showing for traffic patterns on Causeway - peds are about to get mowed down by cyclists, and the guy at the bottom crosswalk seems to be trying to communicate something to the speeding driver, but it is pretty funny.

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

I liked the glassy-ness of the last render more-- Boston could use some more modern-looking stuff. But maybe what goes up sooner (like this project) needs to act as a transition between old Boston and new Boston. Big projects that are further up the pipeline-- Harbor Garage, Government Center, 111 Federal, Back Bay Garage-- can be glassy and curvy and modern. This can bridge the gap. I like the way this looks.

You must be referring to the old rendering because the new one is sex in building form, retractable roof and all (minus the homeless bathtub out back).

Landmark?? In the sense of iconic? Not seeing that at all. It's perfectly fine and the tallest tower is somewhat distinctive, but I think it does, in fact, look like Fenway on steroids. Not that I'm accusing anyone at Fenway of being on steroids...
I think it's a huge disappointment that none of the new tall buildings on the boards is remotely iconic--the best that can be said is that some of them look to be of solid quality.

The scrolling marquee alone will make this place feel more alive than anywhere in the state

I CANT TAKE IT ANY LONGER THEY NEED TO BREAK GROUND ALREADY!

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Something other than a flat roof line would be nice.

Re: The Boston Garden (TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

The ground level is amazing, the left tower is great, the right tower belongs in Anchorage, Alaska.

What? The Fenway is the latest booming neighborhood in Boston. There's no way you can use "it looks like the Fenway" as an insult. More developments in Boston should look like those going up right now in The Fenway.

The ground floor/podium of this thing in the latest Boston Properties renders looks epic. It's very contextual for the area and offers tons of street level activation.
