The Hub on Causeway (née TD Garden Towers) | 80 Causeway Street | West End

Right?! You'd think Vornado took over the project or something...
Sure looks funny. I think I see the foundation for a tower crane in the middle two photos in the stack of 4. (behind the red/white "property of" tag in photo 2 and under tube marked "35" in photo 3)

Is there a rule like that having finished digging down, they can't go up until it has set? Or maybe, with winds and a noreaster coming on, there's no point in setting the crane before Tuesday? Or maybe Wynn has them all?

Crane is on sight :)

Bldup.com is reporting that wework will lease space in phase 1 for a new shared work space. Also Livenation will be developing a music venue in some of the retail.

I can't wait to see that giant white wall disappear

Just curious- both this and 88 Ames turned their webcams off (or disabled live updating) while the crane was going up- any reason why?

I feel like this project will experience the "where the hell did that come from" phenomenon among people who haven't been following development news, like 1 Dalton. No ones given it alot of press, and people are gonna walk by and be like "Jesus, there's 3 giant towers that weren't there a year ago."

I wonder what effect the retail/entertainment component of this project will have on the existing retail in the Bulfinch Triangle. I worked on Friend St for a couple years and the retail in that area, frankly, sucks. It's all divey sports bars that cater to the Garden crowd for the roughly 1-in-3 days a year that there's an event. Those places can be fun when you're going to a Bs or Cs game, but for the other 200+ days of the year they're completely dead. Some places don't even bother opening unless something is going on at the Garden.

Hub on Causeway will have 90k sf of retail/entertainment space (not including the Star Market and ArcLight), much of which I expect to cater to the pre- and post-game crowds. This will be direct competition for the existing stuff on Causeway, Canal, Friend, and Portland. I wouldn't at all be surprised if some of the existing sports bars see business drop off and times get tough once the bigger, newer, and better-located spots open up in Hub on Causeway.

At the same time, an influx of 9-5 workers in the Hub on Causeway office component could change the nature of demand for food and drinks in the area. I expect to see some of the crappy pizza and 32oz light beer venues in the Bulfinch Triangle give way to more Downtown or Back Bay style restaurants.

The Fenway has a good mix of Red Sox-centric stuff right around the Park (on Lansdowne, Yawkey, close on Brookline, close on Boylston, etc.) and more general bars and restaurants beyond (further down Boylston, Peterborough, further down Brookline, etc.). Baseball Tavern and Cask 'n' Flagon give way to Sweet Cheeks and Tiger Mama as you walk away from the Park. I'd love to see the same thing happen with the Garden / North Station / Bulfinch Triangle area.

I dont want to pull this too far off topic, but I can't help but point out that if this and the Bulfinch crossing development both come to their full (or near-full) fruition, then these streets will then connect two major residential and office areas. I'd have to imagine that the year-round throughput of people in the triangle region will dramatically increase, expanding the retail viability of these streets.

YES!!! I've been saying for years that we need a live music venue in the 500-1000 capacity range in this part of the city! Great news. Wish it wasn't LiveNation but I'll deal.

i know it's been going on for a long time, but to see another tower crane going up in the midst of what 30 years ago was little more than an afterthought of urban decay is totally INSANE.

after the Celtics season was over, it was Halftime Pizza and porno glimmering through darkness.... and a couple of blocks down, the smell of bread, and hours spent slamming pans.

don't ask.

Wasn't sure where to post this but...car-free canal st. It's happening!

https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2...this-summer/dpf4TWGxSkOA8ATpG9dXKI/story.html

Awesome. Honestly, cars aren't too much of a problem on Canal, IMHO. But with all of the residential/hotel development going on in the immediate area, Canal strikes me as a street that has potential to be car-free permanently. It's short, there are relatively simple alternate routes for vehicles in/around the neighborhood, and the streetwall is perfect. The location next to the Garden certainly doesn't hurt either.
