Eater: Jack's Abby Is Putting in a Taproom in North Station

Beer-loving north and westbound commuters, rejoice: Framingham-based Jack’s Abby is coming to Boston proper with plans to transform the train bar at North Station into a taproom, per an announcement from the brewery today. Track Zero Taproom, as it will be called, will offer thirsty travelers and sports fans 10 tap lines of Jack’s Abby and Springdale beers. (Springdale is a Jack’s Abby’s offshoot with a particular focus on barrel-aged beers and experimental brews.)

According to today’s announcement, the transformation will be a gradual one, and it will come to fruition this winter.

Went to the Garden last night for the first time in over a decade so I can't tell what's new and what isn't. Honestly the whole place seemed quite shiny and modern until we got to our actual seats. I got there via the Orange Line so the photos start at the tunnel. The escalator was reversed when we left later:

Yes.

On the subway end, the 2019 Tunnel ties into the 2006 GL/OL superstation at the same archway that served the 2006 Tunnel(which only got you halfway to the Garden before it popped up onto the sidewalk and you schlepped uncovered the rest of the way to the NS Dig-side entrance.

I think you can tell by how the 2019 Tunnel aligns with the 2006 archway that the 2019 Tunnel is about 4' narrower than the 2006 Tunnel was. Of course the 2006 Tunnel was closed in 2016 so it is a little hard to work from memory.

But the 2013 photos at SubwayNut.com give the flavor of how wide it was.

Once you got past the elevator (this view is from the mid-sidewalk headhouse) didn't it widen back out to "one full archspan" of the bare concrete arches that are repeated many places in the subway station?

Its great. I PRAY that the govt ctr garage buildings across the street from the towers frame the Custom house tower between them where the ped path is. It looks like they will. Thats going to be friggin phenominal if they do.

It's good urbanism. It's now a far more pleasant experience to take the T to a game or to North Station. It'll certainly make the developers a truckload of cash. All big wins.

I just wish it looked...smarter.

Yeah keep in mind there's 2OL and 1 GL platform at the bottom level, and 1 GL platform + unpaid lobby on the mezzanine level of the station. Tunnel starts from the unpaid lobby on the Mezz level.

Just went to a celtics game last weekend too. Summary of my thoughts:
**TD garden's interior concourses now look great. Love the terazzo floors and new lighting. (Result of the 2016 renovation).
**Having the OL/GL tunnel to the garden was great (and though it is narrow, it didn't seem to be a problem despite the game-time pedestrian traffic).
**Inside the garden, the concourses are actually going to be getting wider on the causway side, so that will be nice
**They're adding new seats to the rafters level within the garden (via a small cantilever around the whole arena)...seems like that should integrate pretty seamlessly.

**Finally: does anyone know if the new NS/GL-OL signage is going to get upgraded...it all looks VERY temporary...e.g., printed on posterboard and not quite fitting (this goes for signs/maps tacked to the walls, as well as overhead signs)

I agree. Looks horrible and out of place when contrasted with the previous renovations.

Fans and concert-goers will have an overview of the action on the court, stage or ice. A cantilever design will provide an additional row of seating to Level 9 and fans will enjoy one of the most unique vantage points in the arena.

the NS/Garden end, the 2019 Tunnel works OK because the new CR/Garden layout tends to push everybody to exit through the central retail (and the space everyone loves) to Causeway...the longer and uncovered walk to the "far" subway street entrance is totally "worth it" because it is a fun and interesting city walk.

From the subway superstation end, they need to make exiting UP to Causeway more attractive (so people will "do the arrival" at the Garden, instead of the tunnel)

Exit the Garden through the new central staircase on a clear night and the view of the lit up Custom House tower is the single best thing about the Hub development.

And along those lines, they really need to design/install some better wayfinding signage as part of this overall project (e.g., for both commuters and eventgoers). I realize that it's still early and maybe that's in the works - but it's a missing piece until its there.

Yeah no render of the court view, but this does show some exterior windows on the north side, which is interesting?

And my best guess from this one is that what's happening is that they're adding a 'club' experience behind the existing rafter seats, plus a single additional row of 'green monster' type stools & bar/table seats ... rather than adding an entirely new seating area per se above the arena.

So that would mean theyre opening up the yellow wall you see at the top of the upper deck in this image (sorry its big). - ie the fancy stuff you see in the other renders is happening behind where the yellow wall is here.
