If the Tip O'Neill building weren't visible I'd scarcely know where I was:

Perhaps the perspective effect of the windows on the new building help make the O'Neil building seem less awful from here?

Old and New:

If the Tip O'Neill building weren't visible I'd scarcely know where I was:

Even during construction I've already heard a couple people walking by asking where the garden was or saying something along the lines of "I swear North Station used to be across the street."

Obviously the signage on the new entrance will clear things up, but I find it pretty funny in the meantime..

^That just shows how transformative this project is for the area. I've got to say that I'm more excited about this project than just about any other right now. I also think "Hub-on-Causeway" nickname is spot-on, because this will become quite the hub for so many activities. Catch a movie. Attend a game or concert. Chow down in tons of restaurants. Game of billiards over a beer. Load up on groceries. Jump on a train to Mt.Wachusett for a ski weekend. But wait, there's more! :)

Looking pretty damn good. Better than the renderings led one to believe.

Great angles Beeline! Look how tall, slender and sexy this would have been if it had gone the full 659' as originally approved....

People will see the low section of the O'Neill as the logical extension of the street wall for a natural, slender, Boston supertall pushing 820'..... and the taller part of the O'Neill being the natural spacing between three towers....

well i do anyway! :)

Is the CR+Subway pedestrian connection on track to open in the next month?

It wasn't that long ago this area looked like this:

Some Mad Max cars wouldn't have been out of place. I get the concerns some elucidated in the past with the three new landscrapers across the street, or concerns about the office tower, but what a change!

Old school look at the old school North Station:

Great photos..

Someone may have stated this but this is adding a movie theater? If so does that make Boston's movie theater count go to 4 that are directly in the city (which is still so weak)

Also when does phase 3 start? Phase 3 is going to give such a completeness to this area?

Yes. It includes an ArcLight Cinema with 15 screens. That will bring the count to 5 movie theaters within City limits I believe.

Regal Fenway
AMC Boston common
Showcase De Lux at Seaport Square (or whatever pretentious name they’ve got)
AMC South Bay
ArcLight at Hub on Causeway

If the Roxbury parcel at Tremont and Ruggles is still on track as approved, then that will include a Regal cinemas as well.

Would not be surprised in the least if Allston Crossing or Boston Landing lease a movie theater in one of their new phases. There’s certainly momentum for one in/near that neighborhood.

I didn't see your last paragraph until quoting for this post. But that's exactly my impression, too. This building actually makes the O'Neil look better by diminishing its prominence, that's how much it improves the overall streetscape.

This building actually makes the O'Neil look better by diminishing its prominence...

Your observation about one of the most unloveable of of Hugh Stubbins' works called this quote to mind:

Captain Willard said:
If that's how Kilgore fought the war, I began to wonder what they really had against Kurtz.

Anyone know how many more floors this has to go ?

There are 24-25 above where the hotel roofline, so another 7 or so. I'd guestimate it will top out about where the top of the concrete pump is, in the most recent pics.
