Er, maybe if you live in outermost Queens (where you couldn't get a cab outside the subway anyway). I can pretty much walk to the subway, hop on it, and walk to work in that time.

It's a loooong cold walk from the Seaport to Aquarium in winter.

I guess I underestimate the laziness of the general public.

Either way, the Seaport is not built for doing extraordinarily well in the Winter, and the tenants there know this.

No worries, We can wait for the SILVER-LINE Bus........In Dec, Jan, Feb.

I hate to keep saying this but why didn't the city plan for an expansion of a couple hard-rail stops in this area. Seaport will never be like Fannuel Hall because its too much of a pain in the ass to get their.

Seaport will only be coddled for the RICH and upper class

Dare I say you are overstating the burden that the silver line is to get to the seaport. From south station to SLW it isn't in traffic, its stations are big and nice, and its headways are at subway levels. would a light rail be better, yes. But it is by no means difficult to get there.

I think the difficulty is in the fact that the transit line stub ends at South Station making the connection with Green and Orange lines a time-sink and the connection with the Blue Line almost completely impractical.

Do you still not understand that the SL from South Sta to WTC is not a traditional bus? It's in its own underground ROW with massive fare-gated stations.

Because transportation is an integral part of the Seaport's planning and development?

It's one thing to say "why can't you stroll a mile or two?" Another to be aghast when people won't do it for their commute, to get to an event, or in the dead of winter. There are some things people want to get to as quickly as possible, and without a lot of hassle.

The very fact that the Silver Line was built out to the Seaport is a tacit acknowledgment of the fact that not everyone is going to want to walk those distances.

And the design of the neighborhood really doesn't help. What would be a pleasant walk through Back Bay feels comparatively more desolate even in the "developed" parts of the Seaport, with its billowing wide streets and superblock developments. Don't forget, again, that most of its land area isn't immediately adjacent to the water.

And right on cue...

Give me a break. It's all of 1.1 miles or about a 20 min walk from SS all the way out to the BOA Pavilion. The majority of people won't be going that far. And if you can't find it within yourself to do that, the Silver Line, a taxi, or your own car are all perfectly viable alternatives for people who either HAVE to shave every last second off their time or are just too damn lazy. Seriously, the idea that this is a hardship is beyond laughable.

I hear rumors they won't even chew your food for you. Can you believe it!?

The idea that having to walk somewhere between 0 and 1 miles, or take the Silver Line, or take a tax, or drive your own car makes the Seaport anything less than a first world area in a first world city is ridiculous.

A mile is too far to walk for a lot of people. In the rain, snow, cold or scorching heat, it's too far a walk for most people.

According to Jane Jacobs, <= 1/4 mile is the "walkable" range. I agree with this. I consider myself a big walker, but I've found that anything outside that range becomes a pain in the ass for most people.

You folks and your I can walk anywhere mentality are being very narrow minded.

You can walk it, I can walk it and do all the time. Not everyone is like you, nor should they be expected to be.

Try to think from a broader scope, and you may realize how ridiculous your sentiments and potentially insulting they are to many. Not just the fat American public.

Do you also feel that the Americans with Disabilities Act should be retracted? Maybe move the handicapped parking spots to the back of the parking lot? (After all who needs the exercise more, and they're never going to get better putting their spots at the front of the building.)

I'm no bleeding heart, but I also know that just cause I do it everyday, doesn't mean someone else wants to.

There is a big difference between want and need. If you put nice things in the Seaport, people want to go there. Nothing that gets put here is going to be something people need to go to.
