One Canal (formerly Greenway Center) | Bullfinch Triangle | West End

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

How much of this project is going to be built over the Expressway tunnels?

Pretty much everything east of the Orange Line tunnel (which may be nearly touching the Tip O'Neil Tunnel, or pretty damn close)? The Orange Line roughly is straight down Haverhill St, and continues on the same trajectory until roughly right where it goes under Market St.

Lurked for a long time - here's a shot of the crane going up Sunday AM.

Thanks for the welcome and the link... and thanks for the mod edit!

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

There's three cranes on the site today, and one crane base, still incomplete. Someone go get some close ups!

Happily. Watching the scale and speedy progress from my office window was really something to see. These were taken today.

^ Close-up taken literally. Love it!

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

one goes down(Fenway) two more go up :)

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

Seeing these cranes makes me realize how great a high rise would look in this general area. I really hope TD garden and GCG projects happen.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

Three tower cranes for this one site seems like overkill. I assume that there are some restrictions about moving loads over adjacent properties and public ways that is forcing them to use so many.

I was under the impression that what was visible was one temporary crane, an assembled tower crane, the base of a tower crane, and a middle section to be placed on the base. (Thus: two tower cranes, and one temporary one to help set up those two)

This is correct. Only two tower cranes at this site.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

How many of these remaining structures that are on or adjacent to the site will come down at some point during construction? (I'm referring to the vent stack (?) and the small structure behind the row of storefronts on Canal St.) Or is demolition done?

The vent structure can't be demolished, it will simply be hidden on 3 sides. How could they demolish it? I'm pretty sure it is for the Green Line and/or Orange Line and/or Tip O'Neil.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

I figured it would be rebuilt to be incorporated into the new building, that they would be leaving it up until they were ready. Apparently not.

I believe that's what they did with the intercontinental on Atlantic.

Re: One Canal (formerly Greenway Center, Bullfinch Triangle)

Yes, but that vent building was pretty much built with that in mind, not so much an existing structure being wrapped.
