Wait a sec....is this the same building?...

Can't wait to see the finished product once street-level stuff and streetscape improvements have been put in place

I still can't disassociate the look from the typical 1950's public housing project, especially in the third photo.

Also, the textured brick panels look messy. A flat panel surface might have been better.

You're probably right.

I grew up in "the projects" - Jefferson Park in North Cambridge in the 1950's and early 60's - so I tend to see that association more than others might.

Looks like a fancy jail

This is a very interesting, abeit short comment. Do you care to expand upon what makes this look prison-like to you. I am not arguing with you on this ... I am just interested as a designer what makes you feel this way about this project.

Ps. If you dont want to have this conversation in public ...just PM me.

I really like this project as a whole, especially the varied facade treatments. I'm always harping about facades needing depth on here and this one really delivers.

Ha, no problem. Well it's just from that front angle. Looks like standard prison design to me. You have an imposing monotonous front wall with a corner guard tower, like:

The 'tower' part is too short. Gives the vibe of some sort of surveillance structure.

And then you have the modern jailhouse elements, trying to blend in with residential, like Nashua Street, with drab but classy colors and small modern humane windows

I can see the prison aspect, but for me it doesn't come from the massing but rather the facade materials--it gives the impression of depth and impregnability. I've said this before, but I see echoes of a desert canyon wall, or maybe Shibam, in this building. I really like it.

A good, much needed project. Unfortunately very little sexiness to it, looks middle-aged.

This has turned out a lot better than I thought it would based on my frequent runs by it during the early phase of cladding

Ha. The photo of the Suffolk County jail (that's what it is, right?) reminds me of a friend of my SO who complains that it's not right that a jail is located in such a "nice" location.
