Holy core, Batman!!

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Wouldn't it be great if they just kept building the core at this rate for a few more months and see if the NIMBY's really complain or not? Forecast at 29 stories, but then "whoops! construction material costs went down, so we just added another 20 stories to the tower."

Seriously, though, it's exciting to see all of these rental buildings finally sprouting up around the city--anything to satisfy the astronomical demand for housing in this city.

nee to get abetter one next time!

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Forgive my ignorance but is building the entire core before erecting steel a new construction trend? I don't recall seeing many buildings built that way until somewhat recently (maybe 2-3 years). I have, of course, seen the core rise much faster than the steel but I am not sure I remember buildings where most or all of the core is complete before significant steel starts to rise.

I have noticed this with some high profile projects in London, specifically The Shard and 20 Fenchurch. I don't really like this method. It seems sort of anti-climactic to wait so long for the steel to catch up.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Requires hardening of exit stairway and passageway enclosures and elevators shaft enclosures in buildings. This requirement applies to all buildings over 420 ft. in height. It also applies to buildings between 75 ft. and 420 ft. in height that represent a substantial hazard to human life in the event of failure (e.g., buildings with occupant loads exceeding 5,000 and essential facilities, such as hospitals.) The hardening requirement is based on ASTM Standard 61629/C1629M-06 for gypsum and fiberreinforced cement wall enclosures. Concrete and masonry enclosures are deemed to satisfy this requirement.

This is the 9/11 rewrite, correct?

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

I don't want this core to stop growing. Mine, from today.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

This was a mistake not being about 10-15 stories higher in this location.

Re: 120 Kingston, 29 Story Tower in Chinatown

Who's getting tired of shots of an elevator shaft?

No one!
