Re: 111 Federal St. | Formerly Trans National Place (Winthrop Square) Part 2

I'm not sure it's anything so sinister...I think they just wanted to put up a massing with relative accuracy. They want you to look at their tower, nothing else.
Is that SST or Gateway tower in that render?
Edit : Guess that's the Ritz/MT.
I walked down Federal Street yesterday and realized how overly wide the roadway is. Its effectively four lanes but only two blocks long. As part of this project it would be great to see the street go on a diet. The City could reclaim at least one lane without substantial impact on traffic or the major bus operations. The extra space could bump out the sidewalk so the underutilized streetscape could include better pedestrian scale amenities. I think there is outdoor seating at Cosi but the rest of the street is really bland and unpleasant to walk. The plaza in front of 100 federal is just a big bus stop. More space on the sidewalk to allow for outdoor dining, street trees, etc.

Semasss -- have you noticed that there a parking spots for deliveries and such -- this a two lane very busy street
Give the road-diet a rest
I am perfectly aware of what is there. I do not agree that this is a *very* busy street. Walk it at rush hour. Go ahead. Just because you have ingrained ideas of road usage from your vantage point in the burbs does not mean they are accurate. I walk this street top to bottom 5 of 6 times a week. Before you dismiss any thoughts out of hand I encourage you to check it out yourself. I maintain that you could reduce the street by one lane without impact on traffic, commercial parking or transit.
Does anyone know the latest developments on this planned project yet?
The BRA holds all the cards and the BRA just fired its planning director. You don't need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing... anticipate heavily stalled, with a chance of lengthy bureaucratically-induced delays.
