Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

I don't really get the crane fetish either, but I did take some crane shots in Berlin and Vienna specially for those people. Just have to figure out a place to put them.

Crane fetish -- more of youth fetish

Cranes are life, youthful vigor, mountain building -- nature's vagaries, slowly and inexorably takes care of the decay -- although somethings like some Italian actresses seem to hold it off for quite a while

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

A rising crane portends rising steel. I find the initial foundation work to be long and boring, but love watching the skeleton to up. The images in this picture represent the demarcation between boring and exciting phases.

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

Some people like trains, some people like planes, some people like cranes? Whatevah floats ya' boat, do it.

I do like pictures with cranes on the skyline, though, it portrays a sense of activity and growth. And it makes pictures of construction sites look more "busy" and interesting.

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

Cranes are exciting because they represent proof that something is being built after a protracted Boston approval process that, as we know, can take years and years.

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

I agree with all of yahs! thats why I started the crane thread, more cranes more progress,go back and look no cranes more more folks demanding progress,to see it happening finally in Boston is awesome!

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

I still have a hard time believing they are actually building this.

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

^ me too I've been staring at that empty lot for over 27 yrs now!

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

^^ Because the site remained fallow for decades, or because the design is so awful?

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

Must be the former, who around here could be shocked by the latter?

Schmess -- there once was a company whose trucks said "Boston Steel Erections"

It had something to do with buildings and cranes -- though I guess it could have been a porn feature

It was around about the sametime as the famous sign that MIT gnerds tried to "lberate" which said N.E Tool and Die

editors Note: at the time the process of studying at the 'Tute" was known as tooling and the East Campus dorm noted for studious students - was known as the "Tool Box"

For me, I'm completely underwhelmed by this building. Especially if the title of the thread is "Millennium Place III", I would hope for another 500-foot tower. Not the stump they're building across the street from the 500-foot towers.

That said, it will be mighty strange walking by here and there not being the parking lot.

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

Is this building going to be concrete and rebar?

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

Still not much to look at .

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

I feel like this project is moving the slowest of all the projects that have sprung up... Zzzzz.

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

Still better than that dirt lot that was there for years.

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

From the pictures, the cranes are not yet constructed. Are they waiting for the rest of the crane to come so they can finish assembling it and then begin construction?

Re: Millennium Place III | Hayward Place

In one of the earlier pics of the crane base, there was a sign that was for a concrete contractor. This may be a concrete building, rather than steel-framed.

I just dug back through this thread to find the PNF which is mysteriously missing from the BRA website (actually the entire Hayward Place project is missing from the "Development" section), but luckily someone snapped screenshots of the plans.

Unless they chose just not to show structural steel for schematic purposes, it looks like a concrete building. (If it looks like a duck...) This will be awesome to watch if this is going to be a slip form building!
