^^^Yeah man. It looks like all the towers popping in around the Pru are finally starting to expand down Huntington.

Haha yea that's gotta be rough. Whenever I'm headed to work on the B Line, I always see the new BU dorm tower and think "wow, what a place to have as a student". Students are definitely getting spoiled with that view haha.

The development by the universities has massively improved this stretch of Huntington; I have to make a point to walk it; its one area I haven't really covered on foot.

Agreed. In some ways, the area is as interesting and actively changing as Boylston/Fenway, but it's not as noticeable. Can we hope that Columbus/Tremont will be next?

I'm not sure this area is very similar to Boylston/Fenway. No retail. A bit too institutional feeling wedged between Longwood, Wentworth and NEU... I live very near here--I wish it had more a a Boylston/Fenway vibe.

I didn't mean that it was going to be an identical neighborhood, just that the density of structure was increasing in a similar way. Not all streets or blocks will serve the same purpose, but as we start seeing more density heading south and west of downtown, the idea of development in other parcels becomes more realistic. Hence my statement about Tremont and Columbus.

The major gap of retail and restaurant activity between roughly Forsyth Street and Brigham Circle hurts the experience of Huntington Avenue. The feeling is almost the same as the Midtown Hotel block. Yes there's some nice landscape and whatnot to look at, but there's not much to actually interact with. If the triangular block across from the MFA was redeveloped with a strong street level retail and restaurant experience, the feeling would change dramatically.

Beacon and Comm Ave both have large gaps in retail (e.g. Saint Marys to Coolidge Corner) yet both are very urban streets. I think the main issue along Huntington is the fenced-in grassy areas (e.g. the tower on the corner of Longwood, and all the playing fields across from the MFA). Yet I do very much agree with

If the triangular block across from the MFA was redeveloped with a strong street level retail and restaurant experience, the feeling would change dramatically.

^Yes it is but there are also a few decrepit Northeastern dorms on the block too.

I agree though this stretch of Huntington is getting to be nice. Let's keep our fingers crossed that Wentworth decides to raze those horrible brown brick dorms in favor of some more towers in the coming years.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but nope, there are no more plans to remove Edwards/Rogers now that the IMP has been cancelled/largely paired down to just fixing up Beatty Hall and Ira Allen. Sweeney Field was supposed to be developed into an academic tower too.

Would have been nice if Wentworth and Northeastern had executed some kind of land swap so that the West Village buildings formed part of the Huntington streetwall rather than it be permanently interrupted - within sight of the MFA's main entrance no less - by a playing field that has no business in such a prominent location, and which exposes some nasty tenement innards by continuing to claw out open space where it doesn't belong.

That field is really important to Wentworth though I think and it's certainly very well used. It probably blended a lot better when Northeastern was just a bunch of parking lots though.

Actually those dorms are not decrepit, at least not Rubenstein Hall which is where I am currently staying in. They remodeled the entire dorm room this year so it looks relatively new when I first moved in. It won't look like that after I move out let me tell you though. Pretty disappointed in myself.

Did they remodel those? I've only been in the basements when I worked for ResMail and those things are like crypts.
